Most picks before and after ball are signing underslot. D. Smith, Reese McGuire, Shipley etc signed for about 200K underslot and I think you can expect any where from 200-350K underslot for Ball as well.

I don't expect the Red Sox to rush him, but, at some point, they'll have to try someone other than Allen Webster to fill a hole in the rotation. Did he seriously say this about a guy who is playing excellently in AAA and has exactly 1 poor major league start in his career to go with his 1 good start? I think Webster has been having control issues in his last few pawsox outings if not since his last redsox outing.

I understand the general points. I am exclusively talking about the top half of first round or even the entire first round. All of them are guaranteed to get at least 1M and the odds of improving your stock after 3yrs of college or 1 year of Juco are very slim from that point. If you were taken in lower rounds, absolutely you have that option. About experiencing college well that is a different facet but I am primarily talking about current slot vs improving your slot to increase your bonus. As far as education most (if not all) of these players want a career as a ball player than something else.

Can Chris Hernandez get any one out this inning? I am waiting for Xander's next AB before going for dinner.

I think specially HS players picked in the top half of 1st round really dont have much of a leverage as the odds of them improving their draft slot is lower than going the other way. You have to be one real confident or greedy guy to choose college at that point.

Thaisis said life changing money will make him sign and that probably become a possibility now as well. I wonder what that number is?

Did Ian just tweet that Xander hit his 2nd HR as well or was he talking about the 1st one?

Do the folks that know consider Boldt's injuries are too old and not relevant or is there something to be cautious there?
Just read that Cleveland signed ClintFrazier for 3.5M about 287K below slot. Wow I didn't expect that at all and I wonder how that impacts Ball signing. Can we expect a higher than 246K savings for Ball?

Did WMB become Willy Mo Brooks this season or what we have really is Willy Mo Brooks?

Wow it is an awsome sign. If Ball signs below slot its a huge boost to sign bunch of tough signs. Almost all of us were thinking it would take around 1.6M and even thelavarnway guy was suggesting 1M+.

1BB, 1H, 1SB, 1R and 1 Out. Excellent 1st game. In the second game he will have 2BB, 2H, 2SB, 2R and 2 Out's. X-Man never stops to amaze

While Webster has limited his BB's tonight to 1 (thru 6) he does have 2 HBP. I so hope he can learn harness his stuff. If he can control his stuff, he will be a top of the rotation starter. I was thinking the same. He got decent amount of swinging strikes but at the same time plenty of balls (40% or so) to go along with his 2 HBP. Hopefully a full year in AAA can help him with that. It will be interesting to see what Redsox will do to the starting rotation for next year. No one is leaving yet they have RDLR and Webster waiting in the wings to go with Aceves. Does any one see a Dempster/Doubront/Lester trade?

RDLR more so as Pedro apparently mentored him in ST and guides him often. Enough of a pedro connection to call him pedro lite.

Bum got out. Lets trade him

There are only four legitimate starters of any significant value to redsox in RDLR, Webster, Workman and Aceves. I am pretty sure they can create one more opening at some point soon. Who would it be? I am not sure but I would think Britton just to get the ball rolling on him whether he will stick with Sox or move him out.

and he walks. Impressive 8 pitch at bat for Xander and he did not swing till the 5th pitch.

Do you believe the team this year is good enough to win a world series if only they have a Cliff Lee? If you do then you can trade for that one guy. I think this team is very good but not good enough to win a world series. History shows it rarely is the case a single player puts a team over the top. It often is role players acquired at trade deadline that end up having more impact than a front line bat or starter. I think they should hold on to their pieces and see what they have next year.

Great Job by wilson. Did farrell gave the game away trying to protect Bailey and Uehara? I think after Adam Jones single the writing is on the wall and he could have taken out Wilson. What gives?

According to Pete Abraham, Farrell says Xander will play 7-10 games as SS at AAA before moving to other positions.

Drew being at SS maximizes his trade value to Redsox if they chose to do so whatever public comments they might make about him not moving to 3B.
If WMB gets out of the funk little bit, even with his K don't you think he can replace Napoli's production next year? Also why is no one talking about moving WMB to OF? He seems to have a strong arm for it and if needed he can share the duties with Victorino/Nava whether it is RF/LF? I highly doubt they will give up on him this soon. Remember most people thought he has a middle of the order bat. He might be a Buccholz with bat needing some shuttle time to get his act together. IIRC he struggled at new levels before getting better and last year he carried a hot bat to MLB until he got hurt. Well this is his struggle at the new level and he will get out of it.

So far Xander has shown consistent improvement and he might turn out to be your next Giancarol Stanton, Joey Votto, Mike Trout, Bryce Harper. Sox traded Rizzo for Gonzalez and with in an year Rizzo was in majors and performing pretty well. I understand not all of your prospects will turn out to be stud players at ML level, but you have to atleast give that opportunity to your top prospects. I am all for making use of secondary prospects in trades but trading your top prospects is probably not wise most of the time.

And if he is in the lineup today he gets to play against a major leaguer in Ricky Romero albeit he is not doing well at this point

Interesting timing. I guess they sold out the tickets Any way Xander deserves it and gives him enough at bats to get in to the big leagues by this time next year. Edit: Does the September call up counts to the service time? Also when is the super 2 deadline for him if September call up does not count and he is not called up to start the year?

I know they have not announced many but we have seen twitter posts and other info trickle out from players etc. So far it appears we have got info/confirmation about only 10 players. I understand it helps them in their negotiations with other players but I would assume that is the same case with other teams as well. Ben if you got nothing better to do than reading posts here, we are getting hungry and we want some info starting with Denny and Ball
