Wonder who Astros gave up. Tucker? Greinke is huge for Houston. Verlander, Cole and Greinke. This will not play well on NY talk radio.

Rays pick up Nick Anderson and Trevor Richards for at least Stanek and Jesus Sanchez.

Not sure who they traded yet but Rays have acquired Jesus Aguilar from the Brewers. Not sure how they're going to shoehorn him in with Choi, the young 1b Lowe they have had in the minors (is he up?), and the DH spot with Pham, Meadows, and Garcia all rotating already. [br Faria

I'm hearing he'll go to SanDeigo in the second part of 3 team trade Interesting. Wonder if Puig is in this deal.

With his mix of offense and defense he’s in that Arenado range of 8 and $260 mil no matter where he signs. Arenado took a team friendly deal to stay in Colorado, Mookie has shown no indication to do just this. In fact, he turned down 2 team friendly extensions in the past. Mookie is AT LEAST looking at better than Harper and Machado money when he makes it to free agency. Mookie is a better player than both of those guys and deserves more than them. Arenado didn't make it to free agency. Yes they signed for more total dollars but Arenado has a higher AAV at 32.5 per. Machado is at 30 per and Harper at 25.5 per with differed money. Anything higher is getting in Trout territory and I don’t think anyone’s going their for anyone other than Trout. I think Mookie would stay if they offered the Arenado deal.

Maybe not better but close is Lindor who has a high probability of going to free agency the year after and very likely could be traded before Betts gets there. A team could also be saving money to trade for and extend Lindor. At this point I’m not sure Betts number changes that significantly if he makes it to free agency. His arb number is going to approach 25 million next season. With his mix of offense and defense he’s in that Arenado range of 8 and $260 mil no matter where he signs.

I expect the team to realize the gravity of the situation and the hole they put themselves in if they lose multiple of these series. So I look for the team to respond by treating this string of games with more of a playoff mindset.

Got a bad feeling about this series.... Ok Mr Solo. Guess we are going to have to trust in the force on this one. Let’s hope the force is strong in Rodriguez, Sale and Price.

This is the type of trade we all hoped for. Save the bullets for another day. Adds a viable piece to the rotation who has been really good as of late. I approve. +1 for DD.

How exactly does this work? Does this mean a two way prospect must start as a hitter and reach his 20 innings the first season through pitching in extra innings and in games with a 7 run differential to then be designated as a "Two-Way Player"? The requirements are MLB playing time and a team can only designate a player as one or the other at the time of their "first day on the active roster." Am I missing another way to accrue this title. Seems to me Ohtani would not have been able to be a starting pitcher his first season until he reached his 20 innings through the exceptions. Fairly certain that's just for MLB. Yes. That’s my question. For minor league two way players it seems it would be a bit of an awkward transition to the majors if that is their intent to continue as a two way player.

Looking at the MLB Draft Prospects list, I noticed one guy, Spencer Jones, was listed as a 1B/LHP. Do you think that whoever drafts him will use him as a 2 way player, or will they pick one or the other? How exactly does this work? Does this mean a two way prospect must start as a hitter and reach his 20 innings the first season through pitching in extra innings and in games with a 7 run differential to then be designated as a "Two-Way Player"? Didn't see an update in here about Carter Stewart's contract. He got his $7 million.
JJ Cooper ✔ @jjcoop36 1. Carter Stewart's next 6 years an approximation.
Japan: 6 year, $7 million.
Stays in US. Optimistically let's say he's an early 2nd round pick. $2 million bonus. 2019: $2 million+$3,500 in salary. 2020: Let's say LoA. $6,500 in salary. 2021: HiA/AA. $8,100 in salary. (Cont.)

Also he becomes a free agent after 6 seasons and can sign with an MLB team. If he signed in the draft he would have the number of seasons in the minors until he reaches the majors, which is likely 3 or 4 followed by 6 or 6 1/2 years of team control under the current rules until he's a free agent. This decision also allows him to reach free agency sooner assuming he performs at a level to be desirable to an MLB team. If not he made his $7 million.

On top of which they look like a team that is desperate to get home to see their wives/girlfriends and kids. They haven't been home since the beginning of February. An extended trip to the other coast to start the season is just plain brutal.
This is exactly the problem. Whoever came up with this schedule is just stupid. No team should be on a 11 game opposite coast trip to begin a season. True. This is the worst possible scheduled start they could have had. Added to the fact that while they were slow playing the starters they were traveling to face the two teams who started their season a week before everyone else in Japan and were likely the most game ready teams.

This team needs a Pedroia to get in their faces. Also on a good note Fenway seems to have a way of curing the ills of this team.
Finally they all count but at least none of these have been inter divisional. If they’re losing at home to Toronto and Baltimore next week then i will start to get worried.
While the save the arms for October strategy clearly sounded good in theory it seems to have thrown all the pitchers off their game. Don’t they know athletes are creatures of habit and when you mess with their norm it causes problems.
I’d have rather taken a Kikuchi approach. Skip a turn in the rotation every 5 or 6 starts and use an opener and a long man. Would have saved 5 or so starts for each pitcher over the course of the season.

What the F is Nunez doing? His hits look like mistakes even. Everything he does on the baseball field comes out looking like a old sloppy Joe on a hot summer day. "but he is a good club house guy and is always smiling" (says Dave O'Brien) Sounds perfect for a bench guy.

Chapman is something else on defense He's a complete player. His offense has been progressing as well. Oakland should be looking to extend him now in pre-arb and buy out 2 years or so of free agency.

Now Nunez on the other hand. I'd rather Holt get most of the 2nd base work over him. Also I can't wait to get Pedroia back.

Devers looks like he needs a swing adjustment. Looks to be pulling out and not staying in on the ball to drive it. Lots of weak contact especially on the outside. Swinging the bat well at the moment is a short list - JD Martinez, possibly Swihart (small sample size), and Xander is at least not terrible. Big time issues with Benni and Bradley and even Mookie. And Moreland is hitting well. 4 XBH in 20 AB. More walks than K's.
