They obviously get to it very differently, but here is Houck last night and Criswell today, generally have their pitches moving very similarly.

Do to the automated strike zones in the minor leagues, heights get updated every spring. Today's AAA changes include: Hickey 5'11" → 6'0" Kavadas 5'11" → 6'1" Meidroth 5'9" → 5'10" What's the best article on how the AAA automated strike zone works? The perfect system would have to be a cube and adjust for every batter. I seriously doubt it's anything that sophisticated. Even an unchanging rectangle at either the front (further from the catcher) or back (closer to the catcher) of the plate would be far better than any human umpire. Also the rectangle currently used to illustrate good and bad calls; is that rectangle looking at the front or back of the plate? I ask because with some pitchers due to arm angle and the amount of horizontal break on a sweeper the must be pitches which miss in front but would clip the back corner. And with a hammer type curve there must be pitchers whose breaking ball passes through the front but might end up bouncing in front of the catcher. BA posted it yesterday: www.baseballamerica.com/stories/milb-rules-changes-for-2024-will-tweak-strike-zone-in-triple-a/

Don't give a crap about the results, the pitch data is wayyy better for Song than last year. Very nice to have him back to being interesting on the mound.

Campbell threw two sinkers today, which is new. RHH whiffed a lot on his 4-seam, but crushed it on contact last year.

Walter's velo was down across the board. Slaten maxed out at 96.2 mph, last year he averaged 96.4 and was well above at times; his above average but not elite IVB was still good though. Hard to compare is sweeper and cutter data because the '23 minior league numbers were all a mishmash.

Nothing major sticks out from Crawford's first handful of pitches, maybe keep an out out to see if he's tightened his cutter up a bit, the metrics look in line with 2023. i.imgur.com/DArQa0N.png

In my mind it's more like this Start with a middle ground though his arbitration years and guarantee them and set Bello up for like - so it's 5/20.5M - and then build a few free agent years how the Red Sox want them.

Hartle, Brecht, Smith, Santucci, Hurd all on the mound today
Burns, Beam tomorrow
14. Josh Hartle Position: LHP Height: 6'4" Weight: 210 lbs Age: 20 School: Wake Forest Scouting Report: Hartle showcased significant improvement in 2023, boasting a 2.81 ERA over 102.1 innings with a 27.7% K-BB rate. His arsenal includes a sinking fastball (90-94 mph), a low-80s curveball, a mid-80s changeup, and a mid-to-upper-80s cutter. While he's a plus strike thrower with a clean delivery, his lack of deception remains a concern for hitters.
15. Chase Burns Position: RHP Height: 6'4" Weight: 195 lbs Age: 20 School: Wake Forest Scouting Report: Burns, transferring to Wake Forest, possesses a high-velocity fastball (averaging 96 mph, touching 102) and a plus slider. Despite some control concerns, his strikeout rates are impressive, making him a potent asset for the pitching staff.
16. Hagen Smith Position: LHP Height: 6'3" Weight: 215 lbs Age: 20 School: Arkansas Scouting Report: Smith, despite Tommy John surgery, has showcased impressive stuff, including a 93 mph fastball (touching 98) and a plus slider (82-85 mph). Control issues persist with a 13.4% walk rate, and his delivery suggests some reliever risk. However, his arm talent from the left side is electrifying.
24. Drew Beam Position: RHP Height: 6'4" Weight: 208 lbs Age: 20 School: Tennessee Scouting Report: Beam, with a starter's frame, demonstrates above-average command with a fastball (93-94 mph, touching 98), a go-to curveball, and a mid-80s changeup. His deep pitch mix and command profile him as a reliable college pitching option.
25. Brody Brecht Position: RHP Height: 6'4" Weight: 205 lbs Age: 21 School: Iowa Scouting Report: Brecht, a former dual-sport athlete, showcases elite arm talent with a high-velocity fastball (97.5 mph average) and a devastating slider. Control issues and the transition to a starter role pose challenges, but his potential is unmatched.
28. Jonathan Santucci Position: LHP Height: 6'2" Weight: 205 lbs Age: 21 School: Duke Scouting Report: Santucci, despite injury setbacks, showcases first-round arm talent with a 93 mph fastball (touching 96) and a plus slider. He needs a fully healthy 2024 season to prove his starting role and log more innings.
31. Thatcher Hurd Position: RHP Height: 6'4" Weight: 200 lbs Age: 21 School: LSU Scouting Report: Hurd, after a rocky start, emerged as a reliable arm for LSU, featuring a mid-90s fastball and a high-spin slider. Expected to be LSU’s Friday starter in 2024, he has the opportunity to solidify himself as a first-round draft pick.

New measuring stick for Casas though. Enjoy him while you can because there is no way FSG will extend themselves out that far. Ughh..... They have nothing to do with each other

BA podcast with Speier today said Mayer and Anthony are going to end up Top 25 prospects, and in circulating their preliminary Top 100 list around to teams, Teel is a consistent "move him up" guy.
