How far has Seattle's Alex Jackson's stock fallen? Might he be a target in a Wade Miley trade? If he were the return, would we like that? I think I would - (I know I would but really doubt Dipoto would part with him so quickly) You mean Austin Jackson? He's a free agent. Smh. Alex Jackson is Seattle's 2014 first round pick - 6th overall. Outfield spec

I don't understand trading Joe Kelly for a reliever when you can just turn him into a reliever. Am I taking crazy pills?

Interesting. Cafardo usually has garbage opinions but his sources are very real.

That's it, go after the cancer survivor. And what are you going to do for an encore, push an old lady down a flight of stairs? Lol, such a ridiculous argument. I sure as hell am glad John Farrell is in remission and will hopefully live a LOOOOOOOONG and healthy life...I still want nothing to do with him being the manager of this team. I believe he is one of the 5 worst managers in this league and that the only reason he kept his job was because he had cancer and it would have been a PR nightmare firing the manager battling cancer. The idea that we can't talk about a person's merit for the job SIMPLY because they survived a horrible, terrible disease is just plain dumb. I hope he never gets cancer again. But I hope he gets fired 1 month into the season. No doubt in my mind Torey Louvello is a better manager.Lovullo was managing a very different roster devoid of dead weight (victorino, napoli, masterson etc.). I don't think you realize how little the manager has to do with winning on a day to day basis as long as he's not running a Bobby V clown show. Last year was an indictment on trusting veterans over your young talented core. Not the manager.

Like others have said, you stand pat until spring training. But secretly listen if someone comes to you with a good deal involving Kelly, Miley or Johnson. I really would like to hold onto Owens.

Interesting SD acquired Pomeranz, I kinda wanted Sox to get him. Sounds like SD might turn him back to a starter though.

Can you see Boston fans if our GM let Price walk as a free agent while he was still pitching well? It's the exact same dynamic, except that, sans opt-out, if you think he's going to be worth 4/$127m for his age 34-37 seasons, you have the option of keeping him for that much. I agree fans might riot either way, but Price signing with another team is out of your control. Do what the Dodgers seem to be doing with Grienke, act like you want him and then when he leaves you can say well we tried to keep him.
My point with the opt out is that I clearly don't think he'll be worth the last 4 years and 127 million. Hence I love the opt out!
UGH what is so hard for you people to understand. If he's not worth 4/127 on open market at that time, HE IS NOT OPTING OUT.

I still see people arguing that a player opt out somehow makes a deal better for the team. This is wrong. If a player is opting out, it means you want him on that back end of the deal! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

Do you think Bryce Brentz has a shot to see time? They didn't DFA him when they made their 40 man moves. Wonder if it was just a matter of the outfield depth being so weak.

I think you're overrating years of control for someone like Simmons. When those back-end years are over 10M for a glove only SS. His bat is regressing and you can argue his defense is probably at it's peak.

At this point the defenders of this trade have nothing left but the *sticks fingers in ears and goes lalalala* strategy. Maybe you should join the FO, sounds like they need you.

Castillo was a revelation in left field, playing the wall and the corners as if he was born to it. That was only over a few games, but he looked very good out there. Now if he could only hit..... stay healthy

So if we're handing out outfield positions I assume JBJ is off the market? ... unless DD is absolutely blown away.

Joel Sherman @joelsherman1 7m7 minutes ago Dombrowski said “no plan in place for (Hanley) to play Winter Ball.” Said been discussed in past, but “presently this is only a rumor” Wait, wut? This is from the ESPNDeportes article so the translation isn't perfect but there are direct quotes from Hanley in it:

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the full context of the reports were that Hanley was asked to slim down because he was returning to the infield. I don't think anyone has ever said that added bulk hindered Hanley this year, or that it at least was the primary problem as opposed to, say, effort on that side of the ball. Now of course, as an infielder, Moncada would, in theory, have that issue. That said, we have absolutely no clue what's in the Red Sox offseason conditioning program, and for all we know, he decided to do some shrugs at the end of completing the program they gave him. As FTHW said, let's chill out about six 14 seconds of video. According to the eye test, it sure did look like Hanley's bulk contributed to his inability to move. Or maybe that was just his brain that was acting slowly. Or maybe Hanley just was simply a guy who had never played outfield in his entire life and didn't have the mental capacity to figure out - on the fly - how to correctly judge dozens of types of batted balls that a typical outfielder sees on a daily basis. Now I can't say with 100% confidence the outfield was all a mental thing. The narrative of the Boston media desperately WANTED the story to be that he was out of shape / clubhouse cancer /didn't put the work in, but I still never saw one verified report that this was the case. The fact of the matter is, if a player doesn't know what they are doing in the OF, they are going to look lethargic, slow and general inept regardless of what shape they are in physically. My guess is the injuries played a large part into him looking slow as well. But like I said, we are never going to have 100% proof what the true reason was, but it seems as if it could have been a combination of a multitude things.

Not too worried about his flexibility at this point. He stole 49 out of 52 bags. I'd give him every opportunity to make it as an infielder.
Don't get me wrong - Moncada is quite a physical specimen... but I think people get really worked up over these work out videos/images. A lot of ball players are a lot more in shape than we like to think, we just don't see it because of the baggy uniforms (think Manny Ramirez). Hanley Ramirez is the same thing. We see the guy wearing a tight shirt and we think he's in the best shape of his life or something.

Do you guys think a package headlining Rafael Devers and Henry Owens is enough to get our foot in the door?
EDIT:
Sounds like they're still shopping him though, but not due to "attitude issues"

I rate it a 4. I still don't see Margot and Guerra being anything more than decent regulars. Maybe Logan allen turn sinto a good reliever, but I think this trade is worth it to get an elite closer.

I believe Gordon had a much higher offensive ceiling as a prospect than JBJ though. But I could be wrong. He was also a 3B.

If anything David Price's anxiety worries me more than Grienke. Let's not forget this guy pretty much had a mental breakdown on Twitter after he got lit up in the playoffs against us.

Pen at the moment: Kimbrel Koji Tazawa Varvaro Barnes Layne Kelly
Seems like a pointless exercise signing more marginal bullpen guys when Sox still have Ross, Workman, Hembree, Escobar, Aro, Light on the cheap just chilling in AAA? Do we plan on letting these guys become DFA fodder because we want to go out and allocate more dollars and roster space to some FA body? To what degree of confidence do we have that they will be any better than experimenting with the options of the 6 minor league guys I just mentioned? Last thing I want is Sox signing another Edward Mujica who we are forced into high leverage situations because the FO invested money in him as a late inning guy.
