Anyone know why the signing deadline has been pushed back when compared to the past two years? July 15th for this year compared to 7/6 in 2018 and 7/7 in 2017.

I don't blame Mookie for his comments this morning, basically saying that he doesn't anticipate any sort of extension before he hits FA, but as a fan, it sucks. I hope I'm wrong, and I can't possibly imagine they just let him walk with the only compensation being a mediocre round draft pick, but I also can't fathom them trading him, or some team putting together a realistic package for him, unless the Sox are just terrible for some reason in 2019 or 2020. The whole situation just feels like it's either going to end great (with an extension), or disastrously (with him leaving in FA), with no middle ground If Mookie has another stellar year in 2019 and the Sox offer something along the lines of 11/385 in the early offseason that gets declined then I don't think there's any other reasonable rationale than Mookie just doesn't want to play in Boston. Dombrowski has to protect the franchise at that point and deal him before 2020 so they aren't left entirely holding the bag.

Once Harper signs the Sox should offer Mookie the same deal plus 10% more money. Hard to pass up 10 years $350-$360 million guaranteed.

Well it sounds like Ottavino is now with the Yankees, so ....... Yikes! 3 yrs for 27M when Joe freaking Kelly got 3/25??? I don't understand how Boston didn't make a more enticing offer than that. Ottavino won't even sniff the closer's role in that bullpen. That's disappointing.

Passan reporting that the White Sox and Kelvin Herrera have agreed to a deal. 2 years, $18M with a vesting option for the third year. Not dominant like he was 3-4 years ago but still a quality arm off the board.

After seeing Corbin get 6/140, I have no qualms about the Sox potentially giving Eovaldi 4/68 after being given a clean bill of health entering his prime years.

Add another blockbuster trade to the mix- Goldschmidt to St. Louis for Luke Weaver (RHP), Carson Kelly (C), Andrew Young (INF), and a 2019 Competitive Balance Round B pick.

Price opting out would be the cherry on top of this wonderful magical absolutely perfect season! I hope this postseason gave him the sense of confidence to make this move. Use the savings and allocate a good chunk of it to Eovaldi! We’re at a very strange place in sports fandom right now where the reaction to your ace pitching a gem on short rest to win a World Series is “I hope he leaves the team so that his salary can be reallocated 17% more efficiently!” takes. Let's be clear, Price was absolutely the best pitcher for the Sox in the postseason and completely turned around his narrative. But he is certainly not the ace. That title belongs to Chris Sale. I'm very grateful for the contributions Price made this postseason and during the second half because without him the Sox don't accomplish all this. I'm happy for him, happy for the Sox, and happy for the fans. But the guy doesn't appear to like playing in Boston, he hates the media, doesn't appreciate the passion of the fanbase, has an albatross of a contract, and his elbow is a ticking time bomb. If the Sox have a chance to get out from under that deal I think it makes them better going forward because it would give them an opportunity to use those resources in a more efficient manner.

Price can't opt out. If he does, he won't get to hear the fans welcome him back to Fenway as a Red Sox player. Excerpt from a scouting report in The Athletic on tonight’s homeplet ump, Ted Barrett. His replay overturn rate would be much-much higher if they could review close ball and strike calls, especially against LHH: Game 3: Ted Barrett Barrett, a 25-year veteran, will be the crew chief for his fourth World Series, the last two of which have gone seven games (2011 and 2014). His strike calls typically go beyond the borders of the rulebook strike zone. By SIS measures, Barrett called 28 percent of taken pitches off the plate, but within two inches of a strike zone edge a strike. That’s four percentage points above the MLB average and ninth-highest among umpires this season. Most notable tendencies: With left-handed batters, Barrett has called more strikes than most umpires on pitches at the bottom of the strike zone, especially those on (or just off) the outside corner. In fact, Barrett’s tendency to call pitches just off the edges for lefty batters is highest in MLB. Also important: Though Barrett usually calls strikes with regularity, he’s lighter than most umps on checked-swing calls. If a hitter checks his swing with Barrett behind the plate, he’s called it a strike 12 percent of the time. That ranks in the bottom 10 in MLB. Lastly, Barrett has been overturned by replay review on 19 of 52 calls in the last three seasons (37 percent). That’s the fifth-lowest rate among umpires. Not a bad pitcher to have on the mound then. Based on this, Porcello should be pounding the bottom part of the zone with the tailing two seamer all night.

The matchup to look out for tonight is Price vs. Machado. Machado is 12-41 (.293) in his career vs. Price with 5 HR and a 1.024 OPS.

Cora speaking on WEEI right now. Said that Pomeranz has been pumping 93-94 in his bullpens recently and his curve is looking strong. Said he won't be used in high leverage but they've been waiting for the velocity to tick up all year and it finally happened.

No, I mean is it possible to replace anyone on the roster during the WS if someone is hurt? Or is Stephen Wright having surgery on his knee this week? Literally the same as before. It's a valid question considering in any series prior, a "punishment" is imposed in the form of the player removed from the roster not being able to participate in the following series. With that not applicable for the WS, I can understand why people would be unsure how it would be handled. This is why I thought starting with Wright on the roster is low risk. If he feels hindered by the knee just replace him. But it'd be nice to see if he had anything to give before eliminating that chance altogether.

I don’t think Pomeranz sitting where Workman sat is something to get too worked up over. If Sale and Price give us 6+ in games 1 & 2, then Brasier, Barnes, and Kimbrel are the only relievers who matter. I certainly agree with this but I still think the coaching staff should make every attempt to construct the strongest 25 man roster, top to bottom. I'm sure that is what they feel like they are doing but it's easy to question Pomeranz's addition to the roster over someone like Workman, Poyner, Brian Johnson, etc. And they obviously felt as though Wright wasn't healthy enough to be an asset in the series even after what seemed like a successful bullpen on Sunday. Every situation needs to be considered and the stakes are too high to throw away a roster spot just because you think your top 3-4 relievers will be strong enough to get the job done. What if they aren't? In that case I'd personally feel better not having to make the call for Pomeranz after what he's shown year to date.

Pomeranz has been crushed in his past two postseasons and that's when his fastball velocity was actually over 90 mph. Combined 5 2/3 innings with a 9.53 ERA, 3 HR allowed, and a WHIP over 2. Color me excited!!!
