I wonder why Koji hasn't been activated yet? Hopefully no setbacks. Monday, reportedly, after two more side sessions.

Not sure what the criteria is for picking players, but would it have made sense to send basabe down to play? No, the AFL plays like a Double-A/Triple-A mix, which is too big a jump for a Low-A hitter. This does not even speak to Basabe's eligibility. He'll go to instrux, most likely.

Since they went with some high a guys I would Have like to see devers on the team. I'm also a little disappointed that they listed moncada because it implies he is unlikely to get a call up. Devers is not eligible because he lives in the DR.

Fox, we didn't get official predictions out this year, but how would you have done? Someone who has listened to the podcast can check me on this, but I had Moncada, Dubon, Kopech, and Beeks. That they dipped into Salem threw me off on the others. I had Moncada, Dubon, Kopech, Romanski, Taylor, Buttrey, McAvoy and Beeks. Same thought on Salem; only picked one from Salem. I like the Ball and Mars picks though. Ball needs a push, and Mars has been an underrated guy in the system. Callahan looks like a showcase, though, either for Rule 5 or an offseason trade (a la Younginer).

Former Red Sox prospects Corey Littrell, Frankie Montas and Gabe Speier are also playing in the AFL.

I'm here. Chatham hit the first pitch from Chalmers for a no-doubter to LF. Ryan Scott followed with a Jack to dead-center. Steen sitting 87-89, without much control. Is Steen even an org guy Amfox? I think he's released in the spring unless there's a 180 somehow, but I don't see it. I had some hopes for him when they seemed to extend to sign him for more than I thought they would (he was worth). He's supposedly an athletic guy, but never seemed to add velocity or develop an outstanding 2nd pitch or develop good control. Tough to sit in the high 80's with little control. Tough to see, based on tonight. Could see if his stuff plays up in shorter bursts next year. Velo was down to low 80s by 5th inning. Manager kept him in too long, trying to get Steen the win, and he gave up a GS to tie the game.

I see Lowell having 2 HR in 11st inning, wondering how Dalbec managed that. Then I see he is not in the lineup. Where is Dalbec? Greenville? I'm here. Chatham hit the first pitch from Chalmers for a no-doubter to LF. Ryan Scott followed with a Jack to dead-center. Steen sitting 87-89, without much control.

Kopech very clearly does not belong in single A any more. I get why they might keep him there for the playoff time and such, but he's ready for something more challenging. Be good to see how he does in the AFL. I think that's right. I see no reason to send him to Portland for two weeks. As for the thought that he could jump to the majors, that's silly. He dominated a woeful high-A team tonight with an OPS under 700, with Travis Demeritte being the only prospect on that team. Edit: His 10K and 11K performances were against Wilmington, the worst hitting team in the Carolina League. We know that he can dominate bad Carolina League teams.

Quick question - assuming Sandy remains on the roster til the end of the year, will he become arbitration eligible next year or would there still be one year left at the minimum? He'll almost assuredly be arb eligible as a Super Two (projected to be 2.146 at end of year).

I would say kick the tires on ee and see what the market is? But, be VERY careful of what you offer. I would guess the market will be min 4yrs at 20 to 25. Certainly the Pablo number looks like dead weight now. Hanley is not worth what he is being paid. Is that a number you would want to take on knowing that you have a group coming that will probably cost a lot to retain. Rather see us trade Pablo for Donaldson. LOL I would guess the EE number would be 3/66 or 4/80 and will cost a draft pick for the qualifying offer. Red Sox payroll (assumes Buchholz option picked up) -16 Ortiz -11.3 Castillo (assuming stays off 40-man) -9 Uehara -3.4 Tazawa -2.9 Hanigan (assuming option not picked up) + arbs for Bogaerts, Holt, JBJ, Ross, Kelly, Pomeranz, Abad 66.3 AAV - Price, Porcello, E.Rodriguez, Buchholz, Wright 13.8 AAV - Kimbrel, Smith, Barnes, Hembree 53.8 AAV - Pedroia, Betts, H.Ramirez, Shaw, Benintendi, Leon, Young, Sandoval, Swihart/Vazquez 151.9 AAV - covers 9 position players and 9 pitchers, excludes 7 arb players, assumes $18mm for benefits/40-man roster costs, etc. Note that the luxury tax threshold ($189mm in 2016) is likely to rise for 2017.

Exactly, crook wants to see him, so let's hold off on that shoulder-strengthening program, too.*
*By see him, I mean he wants to follow the box score and make snap judgments based on the box score/SSS.

Last year, the schedule was 10/6 (WC game), 10/8, 10/9, 10/11, 10/12, 10/14 (ALDS), which means 4 starters.
The order would likely depend on whether the Red Sox can actually set a rotation, but I would be aiming for the following rotation:
Wild card: 1. Porcello (right now, he's the obvious choice for a road elimination game)
ALDS: 1. Price (road game) 2. Wright (road game, he's been significantly better on the road this year) 3. Pomerantz (home game) 4. Porcello (home game) 5. Price (road game)
Bullpen (8): Closer - Kimbrel 8th - Ziegler 7th - Barnes Mix-and-match - Abad, Ross, Rodriguez, Tazawa Long man - Buchholz
On the outside - Kelly, Hembree, Uehara (health)

Joey Votto is owed $179 million after this year and has a full no-trade clause. I would not put any consideration into acquiring him.
What does DeSclafani improve for us, if you see him as a #4 starter? Don't we have at least five #1-4 starters under team control for the next two years? Seems like a waste of resources.
Same argument for Bailey, only he is owed $68 million after this year for the next three years. Sure, if you're talking about a Bailey for Sandoval+ swap of assets, I might be interested, but otherwise I fail to see the value of trading for a guy on the wrong side of 30, coming off TJ, with a (potentially) horrific contract.
I just don't see the need for these particular players.

Does dombrowski revisit some combination of Robertson/Quintana/sale this offseason? I think Chicago is the first call dombrowski makes after the season ends. Pretty sure the first call will be to Encarnacion's agent. Don't think we'll see a blockbuster with CHC.

Stanton out for the season. Sad. Hope he moves to 1B or gets traded as a DH. Stanton was hurt sliding into second base. Position switch wouldn't change it.
