Agree with the preceding posts. It's baffling that Benintendi isn't in the lineup again. If Farrell is this hell bent on a platoon, then why even call him up on this west coast trip? The kid needs his ABs.

“@philgrogers: Yoan Moncada viewed as unlikely piece in Chris Sale talks. Potential redsox package leads w/Andrew Benintendi, Eduardo Rodriguez.” I don't see how acquiring Sale moves the needle much for the Red Sox as they still have holes in the bullpen and LF. Plus, Sale's mechanics very likely are going to cause him to miss some time over the next couple of years. Just say no Dombroski. Amen. Sale's mechanics concern me in a big way.

By the way, Pedroia is sneakily building a HOF case, especially if voters become more sabermetrically oriented as time goes on. He doesn't quite have an elite peak, but he's got hardware and that gritty reputation that makes for an easy narrative. He needs to age well (another 15 or 20 WAR or so), but he's got a shot. The rings and MVP don't hurt either. That, too. Without looking it up (I'm on the Tito's), there probably haven't been too many 2B win the MVP in modern baseball.

Considering his position combined with the stats above, Pedroia would seem to absolutely have a reasonable shot at Cooperstown if he maintains this level of production for another few years. I know one thing: he's my type of ball player. The guy keeps his mouth shut, plays his rear off, and doesn't throw anybody under the bus. He's a true throwback.

Look at those forearms, wrists, and hands... Groome has a big frame. Get him in professional shape, and he'll certainly look the part.

Is Ziegler capable of giving us 2 IP? Only seven pitches in the 7th, but I know some relievers are shaky after sitting.

That was a fluky inning. Wright really didn't pitch poorly. Hanley needs to make that throw to second. Inexcusable.

I literally hate behind home plate views. They show nothing but the depth of that curveball, which is pretty disgusting. I don't know why these seats are premium seats. I would hate to sit behind home plate and see nothing of the plate but the back of a umpire and catcher. Me too. It drives me NUTS when TV broadcasts go to that view--even if it's only for a pitch. I live in New York State, so I can't watch the NESN broadcast when the Sox play the Yanks. YES Network is always going to this view, and it sends me into a frenzy.

Guys, this is how negotiation works. It's pretty obvious that Groome's agent is leaking to Heyman. The Sox will leak to someone like Alex or something and the sides will continue to play the game. I'll still be stunned if this doesn't happen. There's no reason for it not to. As mentioned above, they'll start at like $3.5M and $4.5M and meet in the middle at $4M, but they have to play the game first. As far as some other stuff mentioned: 1) Dalbec not signing is likely just a byproduct of his being in the CWS so long. Consider that Florida was eliminated on June 21 and Anderson signed on 7/3. Arizona lost the final game on the 30th, so Dalbec probably signs any day now - today would be an equivalent amount of time. 2) Re: Hunter Morris, as mentioned, that was a principle non-signing. The report is that he said what his number was before they picked him, they picked him, and then he changed the number on them. On principle, they couldn't sign him at that point in order to make sure nobody else tried the same thing in the future. He cost himself money with that trick too, because he went in the 4th round three years later. Many thanks for the lesson, professor.

Gosh... I realize there are negotiating tactics at work, but it seems nuts to me that Groome isn't frothing at the mouth to sign with Boston (assuming there is a $4 million offer). Invest the bulk of that at 17 years old, and you are in BUSINESS... regardless of how your baseball career goes. On top of that, you step into a franchise that has proven it is willing to wildly compensate accomplished starting pitchers. Pull the trigger, young man.

My bet Devers ,Moncada ,Espinoza and Erod are getting delt in some scenario Jesus Murphy... is the return Jose Fernandez? Clayton Kershaw? Chris Sale? No thanks to parting with all of those guys. I'd be willing to package Devers with next tier prospects, but nothing beyond that. Let the consequences, or lack thereof, be what they may.

My goodness... PLEASE do not gut the system in an attempt to salvage this flawed team. Benintendi and Moncada have the potential to form an exceptional long term core to go along with Betts, Bogaerts, and Bradley. Show some restraint, DD.

Hanley in the 5-hole again tonight. Sox desperately need some one to step up and protect Ortiz. My guess is until someone does Ortiz will be walking a lot. I know it probably isn't wise to screw with Mookie, and it probably isn't going to happen, but would the Sox give any thought to an order beginning with Bradley, Pedroia, Bogaerts, Ortiz, and Betts?

Fast track Moncada and Benintendi (Edit: I don't mean they should call them up NOW... just that I'd like to see both before the end of July). We need a spark, and there are too many supermassive black holes in the lineup right now. I mean, gee, we do have a problem in the rotation, so we should call us Anderson Espinoza to try to give us a spark? Not even remotely the same thing. While I agree that it would be a bold move, both Benintendi and Moncada seem perfectly capable of moving very quickly. It is not unprecedented for top prospects to make the jump from AA to the bigs, as I am sure you know, so the utter outrage (complete with the word "gee" for effect) expressed above is lost on me. We aren't talking about an 18-year-old feeling out his secondary stuff in A ball.

If Hanley doesn't produce well above average form the plate, he doesn't belong in the starting line-up, given his deficiencies at 1B. You're right. When does Pablo Sandoval get back to take over third so Sox can move Shaw to first? Oh wait... Fast track Moncada and Benintendi (Edit: I don't mean they should call them up NOW... just that I'd like to see both before the end of July). We need a spark, and there are too many supermassive black holes in the lineup right now.

At what point does the organization move Moncada off 2B and to 3B or the OF? Now that he's in the upper minors, things could start moving rather quickly.

The sky is falling again, isn't it? How I long for the olden days of this May when people were inscribing our name on the WS trophy when we were hot. I will save my continuing rants about O'Brien for another space in time other than saying it has been a while since I found watching the games on NESN be this tedious. Just my opinion tho, others may disagree... I'm with you. The broadcast is so corporate and up its own ass now. I miss the lighter tone of Don Orsillo. Also, this pitching staff is a real problem. It's tough to realize that not ONE of Barnes, Owens, or Johnson has been able to surface as a serviceable fifth starter. Ugh.
