Sorry to have to create a thread for this... and please feel free to delete once my issue has been resolved. I'm logged in as GhostOfRussGibson and my computer automatically remembers my password. I want to change my password, but to do so requires that I know my current one. I don't know my password. I don't see anywhere to have a "change of password" link sent to my email address. I'll be purchasing a new computer soon, so I'll want to know my password. Can this site make it easier to retrieve your password? Thanks - go SOX!

With a few breaks for the Celtics and Bruins, it's possible all four major sports teams could win their divisions in the season beginning in 2017. Red Sox and Pats did it. Has this ever been done by any city?

What does Swihart have to do to pass León. I think Swihart, Moreland, Holt, and Marrero would be the best possible configuration of the bench. This. The Red Sox have no one else in their system who can catch in the next three years in majors. 5 years of cost control with Swihart is important in the short term and the long term. Trade Leon for a reliever. Totally agree. A healthy Swihart, particularly with $$$ control, makes lots of sense. He can play multiple positions, at least on a short term basis.

A couple years ago no one would have given a bag of batting practice balls for Brentz. But to his credit he turned things around... somewhat... and perhaps re-ignited some hope he'd finally begun to live up to his draft status. I wish him well with Pittsburgh. Hopefully he'll carve out some playing time. Imagine if he'd had his turnaround year a few seasons ago? Oh well...

It was a joy to watch Benintendi, Moncada and Devers together with the Salem Red Sox. When they'd visit the Winston-Salem Dash I'd try to catch their games. I guess it's been a couple years back. That team was loaded.

My girlfriend and I visited the Rock Hall (and the NFL Hall of Fame) this past October. Sensory overload - in a good way! Hope people get a chance to visit the place some time.

Good to see owner restraint for a change. I just hope this doesn't bring about another collusion fiasco. Simply because a player reaches free agency doesn't mean teams have to sign him for what they're asking for. I've long advocated staying away from high priced free agents and, instead, investing in a team's young/rising stars and scouting. Unfortunately MLB has hamstrung teams who could otherwise spend more on the June amateur draft or international players.

I live in the Winston-Salem area and try to catch a few games when the Salem Red Sox come to town to play the Dash (White Sox High-A club). Any posters live around the Triad area (Winston/Greensboro/High Point)?

I don't know the market for a DH-type, but I just hope Boston doesn't get an itchy trigger finger in light of NYY's Stanton acquisition. Don't bid against yourself!

Between Owens and Trey Ball... a couple of tall lefties we'd had high hopes for earlier in their development. Not sure that their height necessarily has any correlation to their lack of breaking through, but could their height be something where it basically takes a "tall pitching coach" to know how to work with them? Just a random thought on this snowy evening in North Carolina...

Wow. At his age you think you're superman and will live forever. Terrible news. Cancer takes so many... and impacts many around them. Very sad.

I don't see Devers being moved off third any time soon, so Chavis (assuming he's not traded) would need to play somewhere else. With Ramirez probably best suited for DH at this point, first base is the most logical option. I'd doubt Chavis makes the big league team out of spring training, but grooming him for first base is a good move.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here - and I've said basically the same thing on ESPN's site - but CC should know better and keep his mouth shut. We can all recite a myriad of ways a team exploits what it sees as a weakness. And, let's face it... CC has mobility issues.
I'd think the only time Nunez' bunt would be inappropriate would be if Boston enjoyed a huge lead late in the game. Same thought as if a guy should be stealing, up big late in a game.
Just another reason to root for two teams... the Sox and anybody playing NYY.

A 16 year old signed to big $$$ with great potential. Barring trades or free agency, it would seem Boston would need a catcher in the next handful of years and Flores (at this point) holds lots of promise.
So, some questions/topics to consider. Vasquez/Swihart/Leon... would Flores be ready by the time those guys die out? Might Boston need to consider a stop gap to get them to Flores?
Sixteen is VERY young... and lots can happen as he matures. How does Boston view him at this point (beyond just being a talented player)... so they see him remaining behind the plate?
I didn't see stats on him since his signing. Is he assigned to a team or is there a waiting period until he reports somewhere?

Hoping Chris Sale rebounds from that last start. He's become a bit like Pedro Martinez in his prime... we're shocked when he doesn't dominate. (At least I am)

Let the Cavs keep Irving and try to get a better deal elsewhere. Call their bluff. Celts won't be giving Thomas a max contract. We can dump him if we want to or simply let him walk and free up plenty of $$$ for our young core and bounty of first rounders. I thought Boston gave up a bit too much for Irving in the first place.

I sure hope Price doesn't become "Sandoval Part Two." In other words, a guy who can't stay on the field... but worse... a guy who doesn't seem to really care about whether he's a major player on the club.

Does Boston keep both Lin and Marrero? Would seem only one would remain. Has a decision been made on that? Would Holt's production & health be a factor in who sticks with Boston? I love it that DD didn't dump more prospects for a short-term veteran bandaid. Let's face it - third base has been a wasteland. It's not like some stud has suffered a season-ending injury and we need to replace that production. The bar isn't high...

Glad to see him promoted to AA. He's had a good year and isn't overly "old" for High A. What's the real story on why he hasn't gotten his body in shape? I have to think it would improve his pitching.

Regarding Castillo and others whose contracts don't equate to their performance... what are your thought on a player agreeing to rip up and renegotiate the contract to make himself more marketable? Didn't ARod try something like this years ago and the union or MLB reject it? I know MLB contracts are guaranteed, as opposed to the NFL, where we often see players/teams renegotiate deals.

Thanks. I saw him here in Winston-Salem a few weeks ago. He pitched well and seems to have put together a solid High A season as an All-Star. Didn't know whether he'd stepped up his control/speed or anything that might warrant him moving into more serious potential prospect status.

While no one's suggesting Jimenez is the second coming of C.C. Sabathia... he's having an All Star season at High A Salem at age 21. Yet he's nowhere to be seen on this site, not even at the very bottom of prospects... and not even after the mid-season prospect re-adjustment. I understand his fitness is bad, but I'm wondering whether his stuff has made some sort of leap and should he be considered more seriously looking ahead. Thoughts?

Marrero has a major league glove, while Lin has that and may have the bat to go with it, though we hardly have enough information to go on at this point. So that's a bit of a stretch. I get the point your trying to make but realism, please. I'm not sure I get the point you're trying to make, Norm. Do you not believe that some combination of Lin and Marrero is a legitimate option at third base for the second half? Because I consider that a better option than further weakening the farm system for a rental who would not necessarily produce more wins than the Lin/Marrero combination. I very well could be misreading/misinterpreting your point but, either way, I'd welcome your thoughts on the option of just going with the rookies at third. Thanks.
