To chime in on the broadcast discussion: Sean McDonough is back in Boston as one of the rotating PBP guys on WEEI this year, and the dude has still got it. Would love to get him back on NESN. Yeah, he’s awesome. Great chemistry with Castig Sean and joe are great together.

It doesn't count but teams have done that. Have done what? Stash a player on the DL all year? Yes the sox have done that i the example i think of was a pitcher Gonzales I believe what's his name

I thought it was the entire year They can't option a Rule 5 pick until next year. They also can't option him until he's spent 90 days on the active roster, so they can't just stash a guy (like Maddox) on the DL for the year and have that count. It doesn't count but teams have done that.

No disrespect to the grand speed of Flash Leon but i would guess Nunez or Swihart would be the pinch runner. I was being facetious. I know i just wanted to say Flash Leon

With Wright off the roster I guess Sandy “Golden Wheels” Leon is the designated pinch runner No disrespect to the grand speed of Flash Leon but i would guess Nunez or Swihart would be the pinch runner.

I don't think Boston has the prospects to trade for Harper. I mean literally not four prospects as a group that the Boston Red Sox could package for a talent at that is Bryce Harper.

Interesting that the Sox prefer Johnson over Beeks at this point to start games. It's possible that they're kind of showcasing Johnson, and it's also possible that it's simply easier not to have to send somebody else down to get Beeks back up again. And of course there's the 3rd possibility that they've liked what they've seen from Johnson lately and he has pitched well in 2 starts so far. While I really don't care for him in relief, it doesn't bother me if he gets a few starts here and there. There are worse options. I can think of other Red Sox teams (2011 comes quickly to mind) that would have killed for a depth option like Johnson. Plus the game is in a nl park. The sox seem to like the idea of Johnson hitting from the pitcher slot according to the radio broadcast.

I think he'd be a good fit for the team as a left hand hitting bat & 4th outfielder. He's on a 1 year deal with Toronto & only making $5m this year. Swihart for Granderson. (Might take more, Lin?) I wouldn't do it for swihart maybe for a less mlb ready asset.

Brought this up in the GDT, but I think Lowrie would be a great fit for this team, unlike Nunez (who can't move anymore). I'm not sure that I trust Pedrioa being healthy for most of the year or even into the playoffs. If we are talking realistic trade options for this team, then the Sox should be thinking about Lowrie. If you traded Nunez to the A's, you would be taking on 2 more million dollars AAV wise. You could stay under the 237 if you traded for Lowrie. My trade- Sox get Lowrie A's get Nunez and Swihart Swihart gets a fresh start in Oakland, where he could develop as a catcher. Boston's bench improves. Good insurance policy for Pedrioa. Better option than Nunez. No prospects traded in the Sox depleted system. Good all around deal I think. If I am Oakland I kind of like this trade in a asset gathering sort of way. If they sell Nunez at the deadline this might turn in to a solid haul for Lowrie. But with that said I hold out for more.

What does anybody think that would cost? Wouldn't this send the sox over the lux tax? If they are cool with that then i say lets do this if its a fair price.

A potential draft and stash? In the second? That's a tough decision. For one I love the player, but can he ever play again? Usually the answer is no, not without risking your life. So with our last second round pick if there is just nothing there I can see taking him. Thing is this draft is loaded, so that's not a given. But Danny is roster spot musical chairs so he can gamble a 2nd rounder on upside low floor

Mike Pelfrey is available, he isn't great but he would give the Sox innings and wouldn't cost the Sox anything really. What does Pelfrey cost?

Stretch him out for a start. Too bad he didn't figure it out before the Espinoza trade. No room for Clay in the rotation, and pulling Pomeranz kills his already damaged value. 6 man rotation for a couple weeks?

Package Buch and Hannigan to the Mets for a bag of balls. Call up Kelly and Vaz and we are good to go! I like this idea but would like something I could dream on back.

I'd use Ziegler as a right handed specialist. If Donaldson comes up in the 7th in a close game with a guy on and one out, bring in Ziegler. I'd make Uehara the closer. Of course if it is 3 Right handed hitters in the 9th and Uehara is tired or whatever they can mix and match according to the situation. And who has been sharper recently. I know it wasn't a lot of cash involved but I've got to believe we would have had to give up more talent if the salaries were commensurate. I like this sort of deal and we absolutely could use Ziegler this year even if Kimbrell comes back strong. Give me this sort of deal every day of the week. Chances are neither of the prospects involved will ever be that valuable. When we are in a possible playoff hunt we need to do this sort of deal in particular. Keep the premium prospects but still fill a need with the big club with a quality guy who may actually get us a win or 2 more and make a difference. Chad Bradford 2.0? And use Tommy Layne correctly or let be used somewhere well.

Travis Shaw and Owens maybe a low level prospect or two For Rich Hill, Josh Reddick, and Sean Doolittle. I'd do this tomorrow. So would I, and so wouldn't the A's. But roughly what would that package or a similar package cost? Or Rich Hill, Coco Crisp Ryan Madison what would that cost?

I want no part of getting a LF that would cost us Moncada and/or Benintendi, unless his name is Trout. We can use an upgrade and more depth, but we should be able to do that by not including our top prospects. What about stanton?
