It’s not the matter of their winning a shortstop position at age 21 or 22 that was the focus of my assuming Bloom (or his successor) is (or will) count on Meyer or Romero’s development, it’s the consideration that their talent could persuade him that it is not worth committing lengthy term to Dansby.
Of course they have a lot of maturing to do. Hell, Dansby reached the majors at 22. As did Turner. Correa was 21. Even our beloved Nomar reached the Sox roster at 22. Both Mayer and Romero were first round pics. Mayer, #4 was ranked #1 pre draft.
Sox surely have coaches to show them how to brush up and down and to change underwear.

The factor lurking in the background here is Marcelo .Meyer as he was in the Bogaerts drama. I don't believe Bloom wants to commit a long term expensive contract to a shortstop when Meyer and Romero are waiting in the wings and could be challenging for a position in two or three years. A stopgap Iggy, Kiké type may be the strategy. There certainly are other holes to fill on this roster with the money a Swanson would command.

The column in today's Globe by Abraham/Speier is a good description of the Bogaerts contract failure and other blunders by our current (and hopefully not for long) GM. It's especially noteworthy when the decision not to trade J.D. cost the Sox a chance at 2nd round choice in the draft. It's one error after another; trading Renfroe and not signing Schwarber cost the team a chance at the post season this year, return on Benintendi, bullpen decisions, etc., etc.

With Meyer on his way in 2 years or so, Bloom was right to stand against an eleven year contract. It seemed so promising when he closed out his face-to-face-to-face with X and Boras. Well Orsillo will be happy to see a familiar face.

Pivot to Taylor Rogers? He's been my #1 bullpen target, and we could really use a high-leverage lefty. Even before the events of today, I'd rather spend a little bit more and invest 3/24 or 2/18 in Rogers, considering Kahnle is getting almost $12mil. He belongs on the Twins with his brother Tyler.

13 innings in the last 3 years and they gave him two years guaranteed lmao Brilliant move by Bloom to fake interest and sucker Cashman into signing an over-rated, over-priced, injured pitcher!! Just like he snookered the Astros into outbidding him for Abreu. Brilliant Bloom; undoubtedly saving his sheckles for a big Bogarts signing.

Would like to have him at DH in our lineup. No doubt Bloom inquired but got turned off by the term.

Would like to have seen a replay on Hunter Renfroe to restore some of this team’s lost power. But he’s on to his fifth team in five years.

I interrupt this programming to inform you that Eddinson Paulino has hit his 48th XBH of the season. He and Bonaci seem to be playing BA tag all season. Both can play multiple IF positions. Which is the better prospect?

Didn't know where to ask this, but with the Blue Jays signing JBJ a bit ago are the Red Sox back under the luxury tax threshold? Bradley is playing for the major league minimum. Sox on the hook for this year and next year’s option.

Looks like we may not be seeing much of Lugo at SS in Greenville this season . More opportunity for Paulino and Bonaci at Salem.

I still feel it was a huge mistake eliminating rookie leagues for the sake of $$$. For selfish reasons I enjoyed the Lowell Spinners and following young draftees as they embarked on professional careers. Games there were entertaining and reasonable for the family. Also good for the communities they represented.
This year, because of circumstances, this would have been a problem starting the season in early June. But a rookie league apart from the Florida and Arizona CLs would have taken care of the problem of finding playing time for those players new to their organizations.

Just wondering, they signed 19 guys. Where are they going to put them? No team in Lowell, so where do they go? FCL - no limit.

Does anyone know why Mieses did not get more playing time early in the season and why he has not gotten more accolades for his hitting? Same could be said for Pedro Castellanos. Kid has hit at every level in his MiL career yet there has been little mention of him as a prospect. He's not even on the top 60 list.

Nice job by Toboni and his staff to sign all but two of their draft. picks one a Draft and Follow. And the two they missed are SS, a position of strength in the organization.. Roman got a windfall. Hope he lives up to expectations.

Chris, do you know why Mieses is not more highly regarded? Is he a poor fielder or have huge split L/R? He rarely played at the beginning of the season and hits lower in the order than his stats would suggest? The same question could be posed for Pedro Castellanos. Now hitting .325 at Worcester the 24 yr old is bearing a career .299 BA as he has worked his way through the system. Yet you won't find his name among the top 60 prospects in the organization.

Robert Murray of FanSided reports that the Sox are among the teams interested in Mets 1B, OF Dominic Smith. I would rather prefer Josh Bell.

Reds drafted a kid from “Basic HS”. I assume he’s from a low budget TV show And I assume too that the residents of Basic get together at Basic Lake to have some basic fun.

Nice return on paper for the loss of ERod. Even more valuable considering ERod's disastrous 2022 season.

I would be targeting another Nationals player who is more reasonably priced..
Josh Bell is a switch hitter in the final year of his contract with a salary of less than $5 m left.
He can slide into the DH slot next season if he's re-signed. I'm tired of watching Bobby swinging at those pitches in the dirt and killing rallies.

Don't freak when Rafaela isn't in the lineup today - looks like he left for Los Angeles Don't freak when Rafaela isn't in the lineup today - looks like he left for Los Angeles. He's the next Mookie Betts & was just traded to the Dodgers. For Mookie Betts?
