Unless you're going to trade JD right now this wouldn't make much sense. Bloom wants a right handed bat and Freeman would be blocking Casas. Just speculating, but the plan could be to play Freeman at first until Casas id ready, then move him to DH at the end of JDs contract. Bobby D becomes trade fodder to the A's for a SP. Doesn't address the RF hole however.

I also feel bitterly disappointed in Bloom whom I regarded as a genius for the team he assembled for the run last year. He's waved bye to Schwarber (it appears Philly), Iglesias and Ottavino, three solid performers and character guys who brought us so much joy and success.
All would have been forgiven if he had landed Suzuki, but that, too is not to be. I'm not ready to run out and buy tickets for Diekman and possibly Villar.

Correa is not signing for three years. And shortstop is not a crying need on this time. Priority goes to a power bat for Renfroe's position and pitching. I didn’t say he would sign for 3 years And if you want to have a good infield defense it absolutely is a need. Especially since the current SS has 1 year left and may choose to put the team at a disadvantage against one of their bigger rivals this coming year No, but you informed us that Mayer would not be here for 3+ years. I don't want to commit a generous contract for the term it would take to sign Correa. Not when there are other pressing needs. On another infield note, disappointed that Bloom didn't resign Jose Iglesias who just committed to Denver.

With the hope and real possibility we may have our shortstop of the future in Mayer, I can't get behind the sign Correa crowd. Especially at his asking price. Bogey, though not ideal, can at least hold the position , if he chooses to remain, until Marcelo's arrival.

Well Guess we can all forget about Suzuki. He signed with the Angels, according to sources. Too bad, I wanted him as a backup to Vasquez.

I realize that during the lockout there could not be any communication between MLPA players and the clubs. But if its target were Suzuki I'm surprised Boston didn't already have an agreement in principle with him followed by an announcement an already.

Suzuki, of course, would make this a great trade.

I was hoping for a Suzuki signing and a Renfroe trade for an established closer. This trade, however puts Bloom in a position to move some prosects, Jeter, Hamilton, Seabold, for example, to accomplish the same thing.

Felger (a Brewers fan) and Maz are taking the 2-3pm hour killing the deal. What else would you expect from those two buffoons? “The sky is falling. The sky is falling.”

When is the rule 5 draft? Schudeled for Dec. 9. It is typically held on the last day of the “Winter” meetings, this year Dec. 6 - 9. Expiration of the CBA on Dec. 1 could have some effect on them.

If the Sox sign a QO player do they lose their top 2nd round pick (#41)? Thanks. Pick #41 was awarded to Boston by mlb after the second round pick, Fabian, declined to sign. It is not available to be passed to another team. The pick , then, from the Red Sox would be its normal second round pick should the team sign a QO rejected player. That pick is #57.

It may take a prospect or two in addition to HR to obtain a decent SP.

Spotrac has Renfroe at $7.5 mil for the upcoming season. He’ll have another bite at the arbitration apple for the 2023 year.

Suzuki would probably cost $10-11 mil per season. The posting fee does not count against to luxury cap. Hunter is making $7.5 per and will earn a substantial raise due to his career year. A Suzuki signing would make him available to fetch a SP. Renfroe will be 30 in January. Suzuki is 27 entering his prime years.

The 2021-2022 edition of mlbtraderumors.com fifty top free agents with predictions was published today. Always an interesting read with a history of close to accurate predictions. E-Rod and Schwarber ranked 13 and 14th respectively. Nice job by Tim Dierkes and team as usual.
Today’s edition also opines about the depth of the Marlins pitching staff and the possibility of moving young experienced starters to fill holes at catcher and outfield. Hunter Renfroe would be a sell high candidate that could interest Jeter & Co. maybe include his namesake. Backfill on Hunter with a FA such as Suzuki or Avisail for example.

I would expect that Bloom does a thorough due diligence including complete medical report reviews before engaging in negations with Rodon’s camp.

Disappointed that Tim Hyers not returning. He has been a big part of the Sox offense since he became Hitting Coach.

With a legit reputation as an above average defensive SS, Iglesias became a very good defensive 2B for the Sox in 2021, and a good backup for Xander. He actually tightened up the IF defense. Over the years he has also learned to hit, in a style that kept the line moving. Those valuable skills helped the Sox get to the playoffs. Interestingly, he didnât need a career year for this. It is pretty much his norm. Why not expect more of the same at age 32 in 2022. He would cost millions less than a 31 year old FA Marcus Semiens who actually did have a bit of a career year. IMO Iggy + Arroyo as backup + a new up-down guy in AAA beautifully covers 2B, SS and 3B, allowing: 1. big bucks to go for X, Devers, SP, RP., etc. 2. Bloom to not block the emergence of Downs, York, etc. 3. Arroyo and Iggy to help Kiké and Verdugo keep the clubhouse lively. I am all in on hanging onto both Iglesias and Arroyo and improving the team elsewhere. With you all the way on these ideas. This is an ideal situation for the two. And from what I read, Iglesias wants to stay. He is a superior defense first guy who can hit a bit. Arroyo is a step behind him in D but no slouch. He can improve at the bat, though. Like that he took Iggy’ advice on bunting. It worked. Having those two not only covers 2B but Ss and 3B as well.

I'd be stunned if they don't move out of Salem as soon as they are able. They currently have teams in tourist destinations in Greenville and Portland and what some are calling the best minor league park in existence in Worcester. What they have in Salem doesn't stack up. Locating a team in a tourist destination gets hardcore fans taking vacations there but more importantly avails the team to more potential ticket buyers who happen to be on vacation and looking for something to do with their disposable funds. If I'm the Sox, I'm gunning for the Charleston, SC franchise. Greenville is a tourist destination? I never knew..... As for Salem, it's not as simple as changing affiliations with a team in a new city. They own the team so they have to sell it or find a new city for relocation that has or is willing to build a suitable facility. While Greenville may not have the attractions such as Charleston or Myrtle Beach, it is a great city to visit. It has a bustling downtown, Falls Park, wide selection of gourmet restaurants, hiking and biking trails, to say nothing of its beautiful ball park in the West End. I've made trips there on three occasions and will probably go again.

OK, you've got me on the Windex thing No 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' fans here? It was better than I thought. Anyway, RIP Michael Constantine, who played the dad in the movie (what he's best known for) - 1st generation Greek American. The one thing he believed is that Windex will make everything better (and that ALL words are derived from Greek). " The name "Miller" it come from the Greek word "Milo" which mean apple. The name "Portocalas" it come from the Greek word "portocali" which mean orange. So really, we are all just fruit." One of my all time favorite movies.

He's really bulked up his BA and power production, no doubt. The knock on him has been his defense, framing, game calling. Should be a Varitek project in the off season and in S.T.

I honestly believe we should have called him up instead of Duran to see if he could have gained any value or maybe even earned his stay. I love Duran and i’m all for his getting ABs and getting better but if marcus were hitting .250 right now, i think we would have been happy to have him. And if he were trash then you could have let him walk for nothing. Or maybe even traded him for someone who saw him hit major league pitching and wanted to take a flyer, even if it was for a lower level guy just to get something in return. Touched it up a bit. Good post otherwise.

Reed, a surprise pick up in the MiLB Rule 5, has really made the best of his opportunity. Like his comment on the RS org. where it lets its prospects play and enjoy the game. I see him as a future DH as he has limited athletic ability. Look forward to his prospect ranking in the next evaluation period.
