Why was Bianchi still batting for us in this situation? Surely either Betts or Napoli pinch-hitting would have been a better option. Farrell waving the white flag it appears. I honestly had no idea Bianchi was on the roster. I'm honestly curious as to what the (rational) non-button posters think happens between Chili Davis, John Farrell, and Ben Cherington. I haven't called for the firing of anyone just yet (though I brought up the idea with Chili). If Boston continues to play this way, who gets canned and when should we expect it to happen? Lets see, they already canned the pitching coach. My guess is Dana Lavangie is next to go. Bullpen has not been too crisp lately.

And he adds an exclamation point to that selection by going 4 for 4 against Wilmington with 3 RBIs and a triple short of the cycle!

I'm Barrington born/raised and my family still lives there. Don't know the Kelley's but it's a very small town in a very small state so somebody I know knows him I'm guessing. New favorite minor leaguer! Im also from Barrington. I was surprised when i didnt know him or his family. Witness Protection Program?

Here are my "super wicked early speculative gut-check predictions" for the 2015 signing season. I don't have any inside info behind this yet, these predictions are just based on gut feel and years of history. (Although there have been some reports on Logan Allen's potential bonus). These have usually been fairly solid projections in years past, but they're just that - projections with a significant amount of possible variability. Feedback is welcome and appreciated. I will update as more info comes in and as opinions evolve. Took just a matter of seconds for SP to write him into the starting Lowell lineup. Hope the transaction goes as smoothly.

Harold Reynolds is a moron. You can see Dan O'Dowd roll his eyes almost everytime he talks. I've seen complaints on him for years on MLB game-of-the week. Why is he still on the air?

Good pick for balance, too. Of the last 11 1st round picks, 7 have been pitchers and two have been shortstops (Marrero and Chavis). The last OF picked was JBJ in 2011 when the Sox had multiple 1st round selections.

Hanley Ramirez is the DH. Why would you trade Buchholz for Fielder? You could get a lot more than that for Buchholz. Fielder will play 1b. He's not just a DH. If you care to venture over to his career. Until last year, he played 150+ games at 1b 8 straight years. I'd say that's pretty durable. Hanley is stuck in LF next year. Because, Papi will come back for another year. www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/fieldpr01.shtml I would sell high on Buchhholz at this deadline. If a real GM were signing free agents, he could find one as good as Buchholz in free agency for the same price. It's not certain that Papi will be back next year. 2016 and 2017 are option years. If He continues his funk, he may be facing more bench time, especially against LHs. Plate appearances are vital to his extensions.

Funny, but while looking over the Salem/Potomac box scores, I noticed Tsu-Wei Lin with a Hr. Knowing him not to be a power hitter I checked the Batting description below the box to see if it was inside-the - park. It read: HR Lin, T (2, 8th off Self....) Then I was totally confused.

I think the Red Sox should; DFA; Napoli, Breslow, De Aza, Masterson, Nava & Victorino - If you can get anything for any of them great, if not, BYE BYE - Move Hanley Ramirez to 1B Move Wright & Kelly to the Bullpen Bring up Brian Johnson to be the #5 starter Play Holt everyday in Left Field Call up Bryce Brentz to be the 4th Outfielder and Right handed hitter of the bench Call up Pat Light and add him to the Bullpen Batting Line up; Pedroia Holt Ramirez Ortiz Bogaerts Sandoval Betts Castillo Swihart Bench; Leon Brentz Bianchi Rotation; Buchholz Porcello Miley Rodriguez Johnson Bullpen; Uehara Tazawa Ogando Barnes Layne Light Kelly Wright An extra arm in the Bullpen (13) vs the Bench (12) While you're at it, why not make Masterson the DH? He's got the best BA on the team!

Middlebrooks has a .271 OBP. No. Better than Sandoval right now at a fraction of the cost. Could someone smarter than myself show what his numbers would have translated at Fenway? Wouldn't it be better, for comparison's sake, to look at whole season numbers for a couple of years rather than relying on this SSS? Ryan Hannigan was a good get. Too bad he got injured.

I guess I'm undervaluing Myers but I see him as a 120 wRC RF with average defense. I think he'll have a better career than Castillo, but I don't think they'll differ much in value over the next few years. Castillo hasn't found his stride so I understand the slepticism. You still haven't addressed the disparity in the cost and ages of the players in your proposal.

What motivation would the Padres have, outside of perhaps a better glove in CF, to make that trade? Myers, currently batting .293 with 5HRs, is three years younger than Castillo who boasts. a .211 Ave and .231 or so OBP. To say nothing of the 11m per year average salary Rusney will earn until 2020 as opposed to Myers who is working for a little over half a mil. Castillo has not even established himself as a major leaguer yet, although he shows the potential.

With a .216 BA he should fit right in with this team. Seriously, he did have good stats after being acquired by the O's, .293 in 20 games and .333 in post season. Team can easily replace Peguero with de Aza and upgrade with the bat. He's been a ML regular for several seasons while Peguero has bounced between AAA and ML.

Gerry - Perhaps you are not familiar with the Boston Red Sox, the Boston media market or former manager Robert John Valentine, or perhaps you have blissfully had those memories wiped from your brain stem. In any event, you made a statement, have been called on it several times and have been unable to give a concrete example. Stop digging. Sincerely, Time will tell. Life is more than what meets the eye. No more posts by me. Btw, I grew up within walking distance of Fenway Park and have been a die-hard Red sox fan for about 60 years, and have a very sound memory. You're a new poster here. And sometimes it's tough to get piled on and beaten down. I hope you continue to state your opinions on this site because your lifetime experience following the Sox is important.

What would Napoli need to do to merit a QO? Because if he does recover and put up impressive numbers between now and season's end, the team runs the risk he would accept, thereby limiting its options.

I'm planning g a trip to be in Greenville for two games weekend after next. Second visit to that beautiful city and to Flour Field. Also will swing by Salem to catch a game and wind up in Charlotte to see the PawSox vs Charlotte Knights at the new downtown stadium. My son lives in Charlotte and is a big a Sox fan as I.

This might sound ridiculous to many: There's nothing to fix! Betts, Bogaerts, Swihart, I think that's common believe, will continue to improve. Porcello, Buchholz, to a lesser degree Miley are or are going to be between slightly above (Buch, Porcello) or around league average. ERod, hopefully, but not unrealisticly, will give us a promising rookie season, maybe even more. One of Wright or Johnson or maybe both will give us at least slightly less then league average production. Let's focus on "the problems" then: Hanley might not be the able to help us very much in the field. But he's not going to get worse, maybe with more time he'll improve a bit. His bat, I think that's reasonable, will get over his bad streak from may and get back to the April level. Maybe less HRs but more doubles. Panda will hopefully improve a bit against LH-pitching. Aside from that he seems to be what was paid for. Nap already has stabilized from a very bad start to the season and one or two of his hot streaks will lead to the numbers jmei wrote. The right field: One of Rusney (to soon to write him off, crazy so many people are freaking out after 1-2 bad weeks while before he was a saviour), JBJ or even Craig/Victorino should be able to give us league average production (I tend to say at least). That leaves Papi and the bullpenn: Papi might or might not be falling from a cliff. It wouldn't be the first time he makes those who doubt him look foolish, but let's say this time he doesn't: That's what everyone of us was going to accept given his contributions for the team. So, please, let us do this then. The bullpenn should stabilize after Barnes grows comfortable and Breslow is gone. Might not be the best, but I can envision them getting into a hot streak once the starting pitching won't give them as much pressure as in the first two month. Pedey will be Pedey. I know it looks bad. But it still can only get better, maybe even much better then we expected. Look at the recent hot-streak the Giants had/are having. While we are in reach things can look much better in a hurry. I can't go along with your optimistic outlook for Hanley to improve over time. He's had all of Spring Training and two months of the season to adapt to a new position and the results are horrendous. The team cannot continue to tolerate that circus in left field. He should move to 1B or DH ASAP. Sure, he never played that position before either. But, he is an infielder by trade, though not a golden glover. First base requires less athleticism, a trait which he seems to lack. It's a bit complicated, I know, because of the presence of Papi and Napoli. That's the challenge for Ben and John.
