Apparently there are two Germans now pitching in Harrisburg. And another German pitching for the Yankees on Sunday. Teutonic invasion.

Warning - Newbie to this web site. Big lifelong baseball fan. Recently moved from Colorado to Virgina and took in my first Salem Red Sox game today. Prior to the game went through the prospect lists for Red Sox and Cubs (they were playing Myrtle Beach - the Cubs low A affiliate). Quick takeaways: Gilberto Jimenez seems appropriately ranked. Nick Yorke seems over-ranked. The guy that stood out - Ceddanne Rafaela. Playing CF, not IF. Two great catches in game #1. Covers an amazing amount of ground very instinctively. Stolen base. Very patient at the plate. Superb arm strength. I don't see this name in top 30 lists. Perhaps that's because he was an IFer. But as a CFer, he merits some attention. Welcome aboard! And thanks for your report on the Salem Sox. Good input and analysis.

Is Chavis ever going to learn to lay off the high and low fastballs outside the plate? He was 0 for 7 in the DH with six Ks. Now batting at .179.

Another home run for Tyreque Reed. He's shown some serious power so far this year. And he's not yet ranked in the top 60.

Perhaps until the deadline. Then he gets us another prospect and makes room for the other Garrett. Richards isn't a rental, club has an option for next year. ERod is far more likely for that. "Option" being the key word, he's still available for trade should Bloom see the opportunity.

That Richards guy just might be a keeper. Perhaps until the deadline. Then he gets us another prospect and makes room for the other Garrett.

Fun to watch the Drive hit barrage at Fluor after the previous night's drought.
Cam Can a triple short of a cycle looks like he's making progress. Murphy effective in his start. Home scoreboard did not record a 90+ pitch but he worked the edges well to get the win. Elih Marrero made an outstanding throw to 1B after a swinging strike to nail the Brooklyn runner trying to get back.
Sogard had a good night with a three hits, Osinski a long 3 run homer line drive to CF.

Went to Drive game but only stayed four innings. It was COLD and I was not in my sweaters and overcoat, mittens, etc. Only highlight for me was a rocket throw from Esplin in RF to nail Brooklyn runner trying to score from second on a sharp single. Throw was a perfect one bounce to Marrero for a quick catch and tag. Hoping for better weather, and results, tonight.

After a long hiatus it’l be good to follow game results again on soxprospects. I will be in Greenville next week for a couple of games and Portland in June for a pair. Psyched for minor league bb.

Weather is a big problem in Boston where the batting averages suffer due to being less limber in the cold. there is a big solution to this problem, but no one will accept it....The Fenway Dome. the park is too iconic to solve the problem this way. That you, Ted Sarandis?

If Plawecki reverts back to the way he hit in Cleveland, who do the Red Sox bring up? Wong or Ronaldo Hernandez? Neither. Herrmann.. That’s why they signed him.

"...support technician; radar, weapons, mine locating, search and rescue, etc." That reads like a job description for an enlisted sailor rather than an officer. Someone has to be in charge of the operation and run things.

I really don't understand this lengthy dialogue on the health of Richards. In the first place the Red Sox, no doubt, did due diligence in assessing his physical status before committing $10m (8.5 +1.5 bo). And it did not break the bank as the team still has $5+m available before reaching the luxury tax threshold. Secondly, it's not like he is the final cog in assembling a potential WS favorite roster. If he does well and the team doesn't, he can be moved at the TDL and recoup a prospect. It's a waste of time when discussing Bloom building a system.

The top ranked catcher in the system is Connor Wong at #21. I have to believe Ronaldo comes in somewhere in the mid teens. I note that he is already listed by SP as the starting catcher at Portland.
Turn Varitek loose on him and we’ll see his defensive weaknesses strengthened .

With his past history of misbehavior it's probably a good thing he's not coming here.

Guys. Just be aware it’s KIKÉ. Please don’t forget the é. Because his first name without the accented e means something else... There’s also supposed to be an accent in Hernández. No need for it since Spanish names and words are pronounced with the stress on the next to last syllable. An accent tells you the stress in going to a different syllable. This is a media thing so non Spanish speakers can better know how to pronounce it. Same thing with Ramirez. Media puts an accent on the “I” but it’s not necessary to those who are familiar with Spanish. Same thing with Gonzalez, etc.

So, at this point, potential starters on the 40-man roster include Chris Sale, Eduardo Rodriguez, Garrett Richards, Nathan Eovaldi, Martin Perez, Nick Pivetta, Tanner Houck, Connor Seabold, and maybe even Chris Mazza. Sale and Eovaldi are the only ones the Red Sox are committed to past this season, and Sale is the only one they're committed to past 2021. So, basically, it sounds like the strategy here is throw eight or nine guys at the five rotation spots, use the entire 2021 season to evaluate, and then figure out who you want for 2022. I'm OK with that as a plan. The other Garrett, Whitlock, has to be considered as well. He's on the 40 man and must remain on the ML roster the whole season.

So it's pronounced kee-KAY rather than KEE-kay, right? No, definitely KEE-kay. Just wondering about the acute accent. Most Spanish names and words place the stress on the penultimate syllable. The accent moves the stress to that syllable. Small point, I know. I hope he can fill two holes for the $7m price tag. Praying that Duran and Jeter can develop during the season to take those positions for the near future.

Id much rather just hold on to beni than trading him for a bust in moniak and a triple a pitcher from an organization that doesn't have much in the farm. I understand not wanting to trade him at a low point but Benni might also be a bust, so its a bust for bust trade. How can you call Benintendi a bust? Sure, he, like so many players in their careers, have had seasons where things did not go well, whether for physical or concentration or other issues as it did for him in 2020. . But check out his ML production since he broke in and show me where he is in the same boat as Moniak. And, at age 22 with only 8 ML games it's not fair to term Mickey a "bust".

Shouldn’t Bloom wait until ST to see if Beni has made any adjustments to look more like the 2018 edition? This way he would no longer be selling low and he could decide Andrew is worth hanging onto or moving at the. TD.

The signing of Andriese and the possible acquisition of Odorizzi would shut the door on Houck and Pivetta’s chances at a spot in the rotation. I believe, from his performance in the late Season, that Tanner deserves a crack at a SP slot. And I believe that, at age 27 the door may be closing on Pivetta.

This offseason is so slow, we're literally discussing the weather. Yikes. I think it was, because Kim mentioned it as a reason he picked San Diego although I would guess it was a minor reason after $, proximity to Japan, and a huge Asia population in CA. And closer to his homeland, Korea.
