I got my 1st look at Yoan Moncada on Friday Night in Greenville. I came away very impressed and I wrote about him here, legendsondeck.com/1st-look-yoan-moncada/Here's a sample: I took a trip down to Greenville, SC on Friday to see the Drive take on the Rome Braves, it was the sixth time this season I made the 70 mile drive down from Asheville. The Drive are an exciting team this year, and they’re loaded with talented prospects such as, (2B) Yoan Moncada, (3B, DH) Rafael Devers, (SS) Javier Guerra, (3B, DH) Michael Chavis, and (RHP) Michael Kopech and interesting specs in (2B, SS) Mauricio Dubon, (1B, RF) Nick Longhi, (C) Jordan Procyshen and (C) Ben Moore. It’s unusual to see this much talent on one team at the low-A level. On this most recent trip, I finally got my first look at high profile prospect Yoan Moncada (pronounced like the fish, cod). The first thing you notice is that he’s built. He looked to be about 5’11”, 200 LB’s and could pass for an NFL running back, not your typical 2nd baseman. I watched him during the warm up stretches and he was laughing it up with Dubon, Chavis and others, not much to go on but could be an indication that he’s a well liked teammate, not sure how his English is though. He was signing autographs right near where I was sitting and I shook his hand, he has very large hands which I found interesting. click the link for the rest of the article please. legendsondeck.com/1st-look-yoan-moncada/

disappointed not seeing Moncada as I'm sure most of the fans were but we still got Kopech and he looked great, mostly 94-95 I saw one at 96 (looking on Twitter some guns were faster I was using the stadium gun) and he mixed in a low 80's slider and what looked to be a couple of low 80's change ups.
The Drive hitters were kept off balance most of the night, Charleston SP Joey Maher, did a good job of mixes speeds, but they did get a few loud hits, Doubon led of the bottom of the 1st with a ground ball double in the left field corner , that hit the fence in 2 seconds flat what a rocket. Longhi hit a shot to left center that went for a key double that was hit on the button, Tellez hit a shot in the 5th into the right field corner and Devers hit a shot down the left field line in the 9th that was foul by about 2 inches. those were about the only hard hit balls by the drive all night.
One more shoutout I know with Moncada on the team the Drive can't field Dubon at 2B and Guerra at SS too often anymore but what a defensive pairing those two are, Guerra made 2 really good plays and one unbelievable play up the middle and Dubon made a great play in the hole between 1st and 2nd. This is the 4th time i've seen this pairing and they always do something to stand out.
I'm not at all disappointed Moncada is here, I'm excited about it but this is one thing i wish could coexist but he has to play somewhere. I'll be back in a few weeks hopefully I get a look at him then

I love baseball on the radio, get MLB at bat $20 a year no blackouts.
I loved the WSBK channel 38 reference although I didn't get that channel until 1980 when we got cable.

Margot was 1A and 1B with Swihart on my list before Moncada was signed, now i have them all together in there own tier.
Not sure where Margot fits at the next level though, I know we have a year or two to think about this but Betts isn't going anywhere although i think Margot is talented enough to push Betts to a corner if a corner is available

I was at the Greenville game last night.
Lots of really good performances but none better than Javy Guerra, he showed really good bat speed last night, every AB he hit the ball hard and defensively he showed excellent range and a cannon.
Devers hit a missle that I couldn't believe the park held, it hit off the top of the wall in Right center field and then he lost his mind and tried to stretch it into a 3B, but you don't see 18 year olds hit the ball that hard, he also showed great bat control smacking a couple of 1B's to LF.
one player I knew nothing about that had a lot of loud AB's was Catcher, Jordan Procyshen, but his receiving skills looked shaky despite a strong throwing arm
Mauricio Dubon looked silky smooth at 2B and had a hell of a pic that started a 4-6-3 DP.
on the other side of the ledger,
Michael Chavis didn't have a good night at all, 3 pop ups to 2B or shallow right field and a K. Not to worried about the stick though he showed really good bat speed. He didn't get too many chances at 3rd base but he had 2 plays to his left early in the game that I thought he would get to and he didn't, one right at him that he dropped but he time to recover and one to his left that nobody would have gotten. You can't make too much out of 1 game and he showed a really good arm but I'm wondering about the range.
Before the season started, Callahan was my pick for the Red Sox prospect that makes the biggest jump in the rankings in 2015, I would like to have that pick back please. His fastball sat 86-88 touched 90 a couple of times and 92 once. We were off to the side a little bit but the pitch seemed pretty straight and the Augusta hitters weren't missing it, he threw about 15 pitches at 83 MPH, not sure if he took something off of his fastball or if that was a changeup but it too looked straight, he also threw a 73 MPH curve. Unless his pitches take a giant step forward I don't see it for him.
My 1st time at Fluor field, really a nice park, I'll be seeing Greenville next Friday in Asheville I'll write up a few guys then too

I like that Yelich deal for the Marlins, the kid gets paid but the Marlins probably save a truck load in the long run. I would love to see Mookie get 7 and an option for similar $$

selfishly I'm happy to see he'll spend some time in Greenville as I figure to get there about 5-6 times this yr and catch them on the road in Asheville
I figured he'd start in Salem with a mid season promotion to Portland if deemed worthy, this does slow his assent to Boston though no? Under my scenario I thought he might even get a Sept call up or at least a cup of coffee at Pawtucket

everything i read about Rodriguez this Summer said the scouts were split some think he has mid rotation upside others think 4/5 SP or late inning reliever.
all of them love the FB mixed results about his secondaries

When Owens gets the fastball up he gets body slammed by good hitters. Not saying he can't be good because look at Cliff Lee but I'm ranking them Barnes, Rodriguez, Owens but Rodriguez probably emerges first at the mlb level. Long term I like Barnes more. his FB plays up because of deception and he has a potential 70 grade Changeup the command and the curveball are the ? but I still rank him the highest of the group

This one's a mystery. Watching him, how easily he generates the heat, the smooth delivery, and the good control, it's hard to figure out why he had such mediocre numbers in Bowie. One thing that stands out is the way evaluators feel, that this is a real talent, steal of the trade season one of them called it. Only have to watch him a few times to get that idea. Looking forward to tomorrow's game so I can see him again. I think your confusing your Spanish surnames, Escobar gets the start and Rodriguez is unlikely out of the pen because he started two days ago. On the other hand, I'm looking forward to seeing Escobar because he seems to be in a late season turn around of his own. I'm impressed, I have Owens, Johnson and Rodriguez as equals in a tier 1 less than Betts and Swihart. It's interesting that the only real similarity is the left handedness. There's no other team with anywhere near the lefty strength we have. I'm guessing (not researched) that we'll end up with 3 of the top 5 ranked lefties this coming off season and I think all three will explode onto the scene in 2015. Nice problem to have. The general thought at the time of the trade seemed to be that Rodriguez was promoted to AA before he was ready. Comments from Baltimore seemed to indicate that they were also very high on him and reluctant to trade him but viewed the increased chance of advancing in the playoffs as being the tradeoff. Nobody was giving up on him here. I'm in the middle of putting together a list of top prospects, some of the top lefties from other organizations: Sean Manaea, Julio Urias, Carlos Rodon, Steven Matz, Daniel Norris, Andrew Heaney (Owens would go in the back of this group IMO). the others are in the next tier with Rob Kaminsky Kyle Freeland, Sean Newcomb, Marco Gonzales, Josh Hader, Justin Nicolino i'm only about 1/2 way through the process so there's likely some names that belong here that I missed I agree with your larger point that we are in an envious position with 3 strong LHSP and thats not even counting Trey Ball

I don't think anyone can top what Mookie did this yr especially as a 21 yr old.
in 399 minor league ab's, he's got 138 hits, 30 2B's, 5 3B's, 11 HR's, 33 SB's, 61 BB, 50 K's
thats a 346/431/529/960 (in double A and Triple A)
My nomination for the 2nd best hitter in the Sox minors this yr is Carlos Asuaje
in 460 ab's (Greenville and Salem) Carlos has 146 hits, 37 2B's, 12 3B's, 15 HR's, 7 SB's, 53 BB's, 82 K's
thats a 317/396/548/944
I know there are others who put up strong offensive seasons, but Carlos is my pick (granted I didn't do a ton of research here) so who do you think deserves to be mentioned here

but Betts to Philly for Hamels is something i could see Ben doing
