Thumbs up for the title of today's game thread
Who doesn't love the Knack's lone big hit?

Greenville is starting to get healthy, Groome's back. Dalbec and Chatham are rehabbing.
Rusconi is apparently hurt again though. He can't catch a break

You guys probably remember this, a couple of yrs ago Lucius Fox went home to Bahamas after graduating HS in South Florida so he could sign as an International Free Agent rather than go through the draft to increase the signing bonus.
It worked and I thought at the time we would see more of that and yet (as far as I know) no other players have done this. I realize it takes a special set of circumstances that most players won't meet but South Florida and Southern California are melting pots and MLB draft hot beds. Seems there would be a few candidates every yr.
Curious, did MLB pass a rule to prevent another Lucius Fox situation? Or is it that on one else is taking advantage of the loophole?

They seem to be in pretty good shape, Netzer will likely come at some savings

Speier points out in 108 Stitches today that Mata is averaging under 13 pitches per inning. That's insane efficiency for an 18-year-old in the Sally. Are they any key factors that scouts or stats would say are drivers of efficiency? The obvious thing is obviously the ability to throw strikes. But that doesn't always translate into this type of efficiency (high K rate pitchers, for instance, aren't always so efficient. So is it a skill than can - or could be - pinned to something? My guess would be solid command and inducing weak contact. Is there more to it than that? He was consistently hitting the glove down and away from righties with the fastball. They were swinging early in counts and beating the ball into the ground.

The standings in the Southern Division of the South Atlantic Lg are super tight.
Greenville leads by a 1/2 game with 1 week to go in the 1st half (tied in the loss column).
2nd place Columbia comes into Fluor field for 3 games starting tomorrow
Rome still in the mix too at 2 1/2 back.
The Drive are going to need a good week 👍🏼

Happy draft day one, among my favorite days of the year.
I don't follow the amateurs much at all so a lot of reading the last few days(much more to come).
Hoping for a high ceiling prep arm like: Sam Carlson or Steven Jennings. Maybe Blayne Enlow.
Most seem to think we're going college bat though. We'll see. Looking forward to a fun night

I was hoping to watch Shawaryn yesterday but it didn't work out. He's been great I'm surprised they hadn't moved him up yet

He's a strong dude, would like to see the flyball get up to at least 30%.

Ah OK I just assumed when we wasn't on the roster that he skipped. Minor injury?

Happy to see Cedrola made it to Greenville it'll be interesting to see how they handle playing time in CF with Yoan Aybar in the mix too.
Happy to see Dalbec in the Sally as well. Even with CJ Chatham jumping there will still be plenty to see.

I like Longhi at 9, I'm hoping some of the doubles start turning into HR's this year.

Placing a prep pitcher who hasn't been to full season ball yet in the top 20 seems absurd to me

I remember a Wakefield interview a while back and I'm paraphrasing but he said he could throw his fastball harder but he wanted to mimic the arm speed of the knuckle ball.

SP is expensive now, that's why you groom your own and when you've got a kid with among the highest ceiling in the minors you keep him
