we needed a staff ace to sit atop the rotation and free agency is always going to be an overpay. I'm happy to see Price coming in my only concern and it's minimal (Price, Eduardo Rodriguez, Wade Miley, Henry Owens and Brian Johnson are all left handed) thats why I was hoping for Greinke

I voted 2 but It's really a 2 1/2 because not only did the Sox get the 9th inning covered, everybody slides down and now the 7th and 8th look like strengths, so no question this move helps the Sox. But we overpaid. I felt like we picked the right prospects to move in Margot and Guerra (not because I think they'll bust but because of the depth at those positions) but they went in one transaction for one relief pitcher, just because your dealing from your strengths doesn't mean you get pennies on the dollar for them. I see (2) 65-70 gloves in the middle of the diamond and both can handle a bat as well, a wildcard with mid rotation upside and Asuaje who can play multiple positions and handle the bat well. This could look horrendous in 5 years, and it probably will.

a little surprised Benintendi is getting so much love here. He was great no question but he got less than 200 at bats. Less than 1/2 the number the others got.
I voted for JBJ, excellent rebound season.

I saw Moncada play defense live 5 times this yr and he looked a little more comfortable each time but I'm still not convinced he's a 2nd Baseman. He's still fielding everything off to the side and as a result he kicked a lot of easy ones.
I think in 3 years he's a right fielder and a good one.

Went with the strong defensive catcher who hit well for half a season over the DH who also catches. Me too I'm a Procyshen fan, I just hope some power emerges

Check out Nolan Arenado's minor league career www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=arenad001nol especially the walks and the K's he too struggled in double-A Margot and Arenado are very similar (not saying he'll hit for that kind of power) just that they were both aggressive early in the count and guys who made extremely good contact. I heard a interview with Arenado last season in which he was discussing how he needed to learn that it's OK to strikeout and to take pitches to work into better counts not just hacking at the 1st good pitch he sees. Margot has a lot of time to make the same adjustments and he's got the excellent contact ability, not a guy I'd be giving up on.

what happens if Greenville and Asheville finish with the same record? Does Asheville win because they won the head to head series or is there a play in game?

I had the audio of the drive- Power game on and the Power announcers said Devers was holding his side after he made the final out at 2nd base that I think ended the 7th. I wasn't paying that close attention till they said that. He was DH and his spot in the batting order never came up again so not sure what to make of it.
I guess we'll know more tomorrow

Dedgar Jimenez has a 59% ground ball rate if he's able to add a couple of ticks he could get interesting

I've seen him numerous times in Greenville this year, I like him at 3rd right now. The problem is he has a high maintenance body, it will be interesting to see what he'll look like at 25. He'll have to work hard to not be 6' 240+ and a 1B/DH player

I was at McCormick field in Asheville tonight for the Drive vs Tourists game.
Greenville Rafael Devers 4-4, BB, SB (2 sharp grounders, a line drive, and a bloop) Michael Chavis 1-5, HR, nearly hit a 2nd HR but ball was caught at the wall, also lined out. Javier Guerra 2-4 Yoan Moncada OFF
I came away impressed by Bryan Hudson (LHH), a nice approach at the plate, smacks the ball up the middle and the other way, fought off a lot of tough pitches. Likely won’t have much power. Looked solid in CF
Sloppy night for the Drive defensively as they had 5 errors.
Long night, the Drive faced a soft tossing lefty who nibbled and threw a lot of pitches, combine that with the extra outs the Drive were giving. 3 1/2 HR game
Jeffry Fernandez wasn't fooling anyone a lot of loud contact for Asheville.

Yoan Moncada
over the last 10 games 38 AB’s, 13 Hits, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 0 HR’s, 3 BB, 10 K, 6 SB
this coincided with a move to the leadoff spot, after the Dubon promotion

Devers and Guerra dominant in Carolina League all star game,Guerra was 2 for 2 both doubles and 1 rbi while devers was 1 for 3 with double a stolen base and 2 rbis. They accounted for 3 of the 5 extra base hits and 3 of the 5 runs batted in...very very impressive considering they are the 3rd (devers) and 10th youngest position players in the league!!! It was the Sally league all star game but the rest is correct. Guerra hit two line drive doubles to LF. Devers had 2 RBI groundouts to 2B, a double to right center a BB and a SB.

I'll be watching the SAL all star game tonight in Asheville, can't wait. the Drive have 7 players on the Southern squad. Devers, Guerra, Procyshen, and Miller are starters.
Dubon, Alcantara, and one other pitcher replacing Kopeck i can't remember who. Also Ben Moore was originally on the roster but isn't playing.

I've seen 3 of Guerra's 8 homeruns this yr. the 1st was a wall scraper down the left field line that just cleared the monster at the 310' sign.
He hit 2 at the game I attended last week and they were both shots that cleared the bull pen in RF 350+.
He's got power

With the Drive, The Tourists and the Hickory Crawdads all on the road this Friday, I'm driving over to Winston-Salem to see the Dash vs the visiting Salem Red Sox.
it's great living in this part of the country because once the short Season teams get going I'll have:
Asheville Tourists (10 minute walk)
Greeneville Astros, Johnson City Cardinals and Greenville Drive are all about an hour away.
Hickory Crawdads, Tennessee Smokies, Bristol Pirates, Kingsport Mets, about 90 minutes away
Charlotte Knights 2 Hours away
Winston Salem Dash, Greensboro Grasshoppers, Kannapolis Intimidators about 2:30
And that's not even counting Colleges. Seriously if your a baseball nut move to NC

I thought i read he stopped throwing the curve, he wasn't throwing any when I saw him. A whole lot of fastballs, and 20% sliders and I counted 3 changeups in his 5 innings.
Your point is still valid though

thanks John. I started coming around last Summer and I lurked for a while but i know for a fact I read some of your work in the GCL last yr and enjoyed it.
I never had much training I started writing about 6 months ago and my editor has helped me with a few tips but most of it just comes from reading others work and learning what to look for.
I appreciate you reading it.
