Man, how do people turn this into a negative? Yeah, if one of our rookies reached out to a vet to check if he was cool with this, we’d love his character. Is it necessary? Of course not. But I bet the clubhouse loves it. Do you think Pedroia wouldn’t love that? Pedroia/Gardner is a bit of a false equivalency. We’re talking about a guy who spent a lot of time as a utility outfielder. The part that bothers me is this is just another attempt by the MFY media machine to make the next hyped prospect a deity. A true “Yankee”, that Volpe is! Pure class!

Why in the living HELL does anyone need Brett f’ing Gardner’s permission to wear his number?!? He was a career .256 hitter! “Classy move,” though. Because he played for the Yankees for 14 years and was a beloved members of that organization over that span (which includes a World Series). If you don't deem it to be necessary whatever that's your deal, but it's a very fair thing to do and if it weren't the Yankees you wouldn't have an issue with it. No. I believe in actually valuing number retirements/acknowledgments—be they formal or otherwise. Gosh… how could Justin Turner be so insensitive in taking Xander’s number?! Can you believe ownership allowed Youk’s #20 to be reissued?!?

This is the most “Yankee” thing ever. I hate them so much… What, exactly, is wrong with this, other than it's a Yankees player doing it? Seems like a nice move to me IMO. Sure, this spring training talent is inordinately diluted because of the World Baseball Classic. But it's still fun to see our massively diluted talent beat-up on their massively diluted talent. Hey, let’s just build on good vibes.

As Chris said, don’t let the supermarket aspect scare you off from Publix. Their delis are electric. Excellent subs and wraps with Boar’s Head cold cuts. Too bad what happened to Sanibel/Captiva, as those were my go-to stops. The Mucky Duck (I believe that was the name) is an awesome beachfront bar/restaurant.

Am I overthinking things by still wanting Iglesias? On paper, it seems like we still need more infield depth. Mondesi is rehabbing his injury, we can't count on Story returning in 2023, and Arroyo has a history of nagging injuries. Additionally, Hernandez playing mostly CF could improve day-to-day lineup flexibility.

This is probably a foolish question, but if the Sox are in contention in September, might we hope for Story as an option at DH?

Oooof… well, if this solves the elbow issue, then get it done. I’d imagine a slick infielder like Iglesias is a must now.

A little sacrilege they allowed Turner to choose #2 as his number so soon after Bogey's departure. They really should have retired it after Bogey left for Remy, who while not a HOF in the traditional sense, was one of the heart and soul's of that organization just like Pesky was. Another tone deaf missed opportunity... Mehhh… I have to disagree there. Teams are getting way too loose with number retirements. The only guys up there should be franchise-defining greats who played most or all of their careers there. Some combination of 10+ years with the big league club, HOF (as a player), and World Series ring(s) should be the minimum threshold. It’s fine to honor guys like Pesky and Remy in other ways, but the number retirement has to be reserved for the likes of Williams, Yaz, and Ortiz.

Is Conforto good enough defensively to play right? As someone who watched a lot of Mets games when he was with them, he didn’t seem awful judging by an eye test. However, he certainly isn’t elite. If management thinks Rafaela can get up by June or so, I wonder if Conforto, average-ish defense considered, becomes a more feasible signing. Also, it would be interesting to see how Kiké manages RF in Fenway.

I know what our payroll is, but why does it feel like we’re the Oakland A’s when it comes to re-signing our own guys? It’s extremely frustrating. Why are we here, anyhow? What an interesting and novel take, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet. Comma splice.

I don't know why a bunch of people are high on Turner, 120 and 118 OPS+ last two years. Martinez 128 and 117. Turner is older and his best defensive position is the one our best player plays. Him at 2B would be like Hanley Ramirez in the OF. The one thing I could get behind is adding more flexibility. Martinez didn't really give you that, yet neither does Turner. I would have bet on Martinez at one year 10 million over Turner. Yes. I’m hoping the plan is to use DH as a rotational tool to keep guys fresh. Improve defense, base running, and bat-to-ball skills with our remaining offensive holes. The potential sexy moves are in the rearview mirror; let’s do the basics well and see how it works with the new rule changes.

I’m fine with the trade, but DFA’ing Hosmer is puzzling. By all accounts, he’s an excellent clubhouse/culture guy, and he’s a serviceable 1B/DH to be present while Casas learns on the fly. Factor in SD paying Hosmer’s salary and I’m fully flummoxed by choosing him as the guy to clear from the 40-man.

I spend none, and it's great. That's the reason it's so annoying that those types of posts are starting to leak into SP Good. Staying off Facebook is a clear life hack. Yep. I figured that out years ago. I’m no “old timer”, but I spitefully won’t go anywhere near Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc. Cesspools.

Ugh. If we sign Correa before extending Devers, I may just vomit. I’m so tired of letting our home grown stars walk so we can sign, sans day-to-day intel, big ticket outsiders.

Looking ahead…. There is dough left, and a few guys in mlb’s FA top-20. Rodon? Correa? Swanson? Bassitt? I’m not really huge on any of those (factoring in how insane the bill will be… I’m happy to be gifted one!). So… alternatives? Run with what they got? Anyone have any big ideas? At this point, I’d be looking to shore up as much quality depth on short term deals as possible. Emphasis on defense and base running. At the likely cost of these remaining bigger ticket free agents, we’d be shortsighted to indulge.

As we now bridge to (hopefully) Mayer, I’d love to see Bloom focus on a high end defensive SS. With our seeming offensive shortcomings, coupled with the new rule changes, it might be wise to emphasize up-the-middle defense, base running, and general athleticism. In other words, baseball.

NOT what I expected to wake up to... Sox are not real players in the FA market. Not being willing to go beyond 11/280 for 30-year-old Xander Bogaerts is not really something that should lead you to conclude the Sox are not real players in the market more broadly. They signed deals worth like $140 million yesterday. Yeah. It’s frustrating for all of us to see a homegrown star like Xander leave; however, this is a preposterous contract. Bloom would have been a fool to give 11 years. I’m beginning to long for NBA-style “max contracts”.
