I don't know what Bogey said to the ump to make him laugh before his at bat there, but I'd like to think it was a factor in the ump not calling strikes on those outside pitches that he's otherwise been calling all game.

What a dog shit strike 2 call. And ESPN broadcast doesn't even acknowledge it?

The Homeland season 2 plot had some issues, but overall I enjoyed it. Season 3 was simply a disaster - the icing on the cake was being forced to follow the antics of Brody's daughter. The series has recovered since then, at least back to being watchable, but I find that it survives primarily on 1-2 compelling characters (like Quinn, and formerly Brody) and intensity/thrill, while the elite plot/writing of season 1 has mostly vanished.
My favorite dramas list has a clear top 3, and I've struggled mightily to rank them relative to each other:
Breaking Bad The Sopranos The Wire
Better Call Saul is terrific, and becomes more Breaking Bad-like by the episode. Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, and Deadwood have all been sitting atop my list of shows to watch for what feels like forever now. Lot of my friends watch Billions, and I should probably give that a look on account of Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti alone.

Starters (4)Sale Price Porcello Rodriguez Bullpen (8)Kimbrel Barnes Brasier Hembree Poyner Eovaldi Workman Johnson Catchers (2)Leon Swihart Infielders (7)Moreland Kinsler Devers Bogaerts Nunez or Holt Lin Pearce Outfielders (4)Benintendi Bradley Betts Martinez An open question is who do you want starting vs LHP at third base? Given Devers struggles vs them and his defensive inconsistency, I'd consider giving those starts to a more sure handed, RHH. The only problem is the only options we'll have for that are Nunez, unless we get Phillips on the roster soon. Holt has hit lefties fine (relative to his production vs RHP), but I'm not sure he's any better of a glove than Nunez at third. I like the idea of Lin on the roster, although his defense all around the infield hasn't been quite as good as expected, at the major league level. SSS, though. Give me Poyner as an option over Pomeranz and Kelly - would trust him a lot more. Went with Workman too, for similar reasons. No way Thornberg should be on the roster. RE: the lineup: Platoon Moreland and Pearce at 1B; consider starting Nunez/Holt/Lin over Devers vs. a LHP; split Leon/Swihart evenly; keep Martinez at DH every game unless there's no DH. Poyner? Are you sitting with Pedro? Right now, Nunez is playing well. He looks healthy and has been better than people are making him out to be. He’s the guy who starts versus a lefty in my opinion. Why the Poyner hate? Right now, I can't see a compelling case for why Pomeranz should make it over him. As for Velazquez, Eovaldi can handle whatever role we'd need Velazquez for. Johnson is both a lefty and "versatile", although that's less meaningful in a short postseason series. Depending on how Kelly finishes the season, there's a good case to have him over Workman or even Johnson.

I'd find that highly unlikely. Kinsler would have to be out of the picture, and they'd want to get Betts a fair amount of 2B in the regular season first. Perhaps. The Boston Globe article I read indicated that Betts works at 2B frequently and absolutely loves the infield. I got the impression that given a choice he would prefer 2B. “I was kind of sad,” Betts said. “It’s something I had grown up playing and now I had to go do something else. [Friday night] was definitely a dream come true.” www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2018/08/03/years-later-mookie-betts-still-second-none/N4QKH82McaAPAIobZDMVFP/story.htmlRight, but it's not his choice. I'd be genuinely shocked if the folks with the decision power decided it was in the Sox best interests to do this. Even if Kinsler was out and you're looking at Brock Holt as your 2B option, is it really worth moving an elite defensive OF to 2B where he's doubtful to be much if any better than Holt defensively (potentially much worse), when you'd be keeping Bradley's bat in the lineup, which is similar overall in productivity to Holt's, and still deploying JDM in the OF? You might as well just sit JBJ, in my opinion. Bring him in when you're comfortable with a late lead and JDM's spot isn't due up for a while.

JD would likely play RF, with Mookie in center and Bradley sitting. At least the games wouldn't be in Fenway's RF. And Bradley would definitely come in at some point for defense. It's not all that unlikely Betts would play 2B with Martinez in RF. Betts is said to have been ecstatic when he was allowed to play 2B a few games ago. I suppose it will depend on how whoever is at 2B is hitting at the time if the Sox reach the World Series. I'd find that highly unlikely. Kinsler would have to be out of the picture, and they'd want to get Betts a fair amount of 2B in the regular season first.

A lineup of Betts, Benintendi, Moreland, Martinez, Bogaerts, Devers, Kinsler, and Bradley with Sale pitching is unbelievable. At home in the World Series, yea. But what about in the World Series in an NL park, Who/what position sits? JD needs to play 1B Betts Benintendi Martinez Bogaerts kinsler Devers Catcher Bradley Pitcher JD would likely play RF, with Mookie in center and Bradley sitting. At least the games wouldn't be in Fenway's RF. And Bradley would definitely come in at some point for defense.

Mookie at second is fun and all, but I'm curious why we didn't just move Pearce there and keep Mookie in RF. You'd retain your elite RF defense and only lose defense at one position instead of two, and Pearce has played a lot more second than Mookie since 2015 (242 innings vs 0).

We might be without Bogaerts for the first 1-2 gamess, have no Devers Erod or Sale. I wouldn’t say our injuries pale in comparison. The Sox have a better bench and replacements so, in the long term they do. Syndegaard will be on the DL for quite a while, how long before Happ ? Huh? Syndergaard barely missed any time, and pitched a quality start last night. Did you mean Judge?

As in, acquire him? Not sure he'd really help us at all. Even though he's gotten decent results this year, he's homer-prone and doesn't even average 92 with his fastball. Doubt there's a significant difference between what we'd get from him vs. Brandon Workman.

I don't know how you don't at least put Lin in there today at shortstop and bounce Holt to second, to at least give you competent defense up the middle.
Get Dozier!

I dont understand Cora’s refusal to pinch hit. It's pathetic. You have your usual cleanup hitter on the bench in Moreland, and he's crushed Rodney in his career. But nope, gotta give him the full off day and send up scrubs instead, no matter how meaningful the situation.

Atrocious managing by Cora today. No desire to try to win the game.

Eduardo Nunez shouldn't be on this team at all in the second half, Pedroia or no Pedroia.

I don't get the move really. Yeah he's nice against LHP, but that seems like a big price for a rental. The Sox only have 6 players with a wRC+ north of 88 vs LHP - one of whom is Moreland, who had no legitimate first baseman behind him before the Pearce trade. Pearce may not have been imperative, and you may not love the deal, but he helps to MLB roster. He's a far better fit than Swihart and Nunez.

Hot take: Steve Pearce is presently a better defensive second baseman than Eduardo Nunez, and given the choice, I'm taking Pearce to play there. Pearce played 18 games there in 2015, 15 in 2016. Didn't embarrass himself.
