Since this is generally considered a fairly weak draft, I find myself wishing the Sox had a pick in the mid to late teens so they could go after Kaminsky. Like his mechanics and delivery a lot. But his size and lack of facing top HS competition makes it impossible to reach for him with a top 10 pick.

They will move Drew in a heartbeat if they get the right offer.

Me too, I'd love to see him when the Sea Dogs play in Manchester the end of June.

"On Wednesday night, Bard walked five batters, threw two wild pitches and threw strikes on just 8 of 30 pitches. He has made five appearances since his return to Portland, walking 13 batters in 3 2/3 innings."
If careers were like patients, the doctor would probably give up and declare this one dead right now. With these struggles, I have to believe he would have said something by now if there was an issue with the elbow or shoulder.

So Hanrahan becomes Jenks II without the DUI. Next. except he also cost the Sox some players.

As for Middlebrooks, as some have stated, there's really nothing coming in behind him. Ciriaco is a guy you use in spots, not a guy you want starting for your team. Brock Holt is hitting .181 without any XBH in 83 at-bats. He's played his way into being a DFA option, not a call-up option. He started the year at the top of the Pawtucket order but has been in the bottom third of the order since April 20. Snyder has been hitting very well, but he's only played two games at third base this year. Given that they've played Ryan Dent at third instead of him in 3 of the last 5 since Sutton hit the DL tells me they don't necessarily see him as an option for third base. They acknowledged that they were thin at third during spring training, and things have only gotten worse. And as mentioned, Sutton is hurt. Justin Henry is probably the only call-up option. He's hitting well, batting in the top third (he was hitting 3rd, but has been leading off w/ JBJ on the DL), and has some games at third this year. Right now, they've been forced to play him in the outfield thanks to a depleted corps there with Brentz hurt and Hassan, Maier, and Bradley on the DL, but the nice thing is that he has all three options and is fairly versatile. Middlebrooks' struggles along with Napoli's success makes it intriguing to think about what the Sox do with the Iglesias/Bogaerts situation. Do they start looking at Bogaerts more seriously as a candidate to move to 3B long term? There doesn't seem to be anyone of great value blocking him from getting experience there at Pawtucket. Speculation about doing that so they could keep Iglesias, with Middlebrooks moving to 1B now has an interesting wrinkle. Just curious what others' thoughts are along these lines. And yes, I know it's early in the year, I am not by any stretch writing off Middlebrooks long term, it just makes for interesting speculation.

And his next start is tomorrow night for the Sox, in place of Doubront. Really glad to see this instead of having them just bring Aceves back up.uhh, nevermind.

Speaking of Chris Martin, is this guy going to be back in the top 60 for this site soon?

Any idea what type of pitch count they're maxing RDLR out at now that we are a month into the season? apparently it was around 50, he's out.

I still think we overpaid, but I have to admit I am really glad we have Victorino on this team.

Hopefully. I'm really hoping they are showcasing Drew for a future trade. I think that you may be selling Drew a bit 'short'. From what I have read cumulatively, he is a good seasoned defender and clearly has had some rather good offensive years as well. He is playing at the MLB level because he is better overall than Iglesias at the moment and we are paying him rather large bucks. True Iglesias looks to have improved at the plate based upon reports and stats in what is quite a SSS. A few weeks ago many were thinking of Iggy as a bust (offensively) and perhaps not a starting shortstop on a top tier club. Let's let him prove himself and not dismiss Drew too readily. Just a few weeks ago this website was also wired about Jackie Bradley. He was ready for the big time people said based upon his stellar spring training stats. Now he is batting under .130 and people are saying that he needs more seasoning....And that sure seems reasonable based upon the continued exploitation of an apparent gaping hole on inside pitches. His defensive play has also been subpar at times. For me, let things play out. If a player proves that he has superior talent and skill, he will be penciled in. I don't think Drew is bad by any stretch, I just know that he isn't in the Sox's long range plans for the position.. That said, I'd hate to see them trade Iglesias if it looks like he can hit enough (.250 in my book) to justify playing every day, because I flat out love watching an elite defender at SS.

Bard was broken before the failed starter experiment. His control and confidence seemed to evaporate in high pressure situations during the second half of 2011 and then in September he just didn't seem to trust himself any more.

it makes perfect sense, biomechanically, for it to be harder to perfect a delivery with a tall frame and long arms. the further away from the center of rotation you get, the more speed you develop, but any flaw in swing path gets amplified. there's a good reason drivers have long handles and wedges are short.
i hope he can be healthy all year.

If Iglesias could hit .250 for the next 5-6 years, I'll be quite happy to watch him every day. Drew could easily be moved during the season if the club decides to stick with Iglesias.

Napoli looks to me like a slightly more under control version of Beltre at the plate. I thought he was going to hit one off his back knee.

i know we can't expect Drew to stay on the bench after he's fully recovered, but man do i love the thought of watching Iglesias, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Bradley and Victorino play behind those pitchers.

I really hope we see a new attitude from Lester on the mound, would love for them all to stop pouting so much over missed calls.
