O'Linger starting for Lowell in place of Duron; think they are skipping a start for him.

it's a rainout in Pawtucket that's getting played as a PawSox home game in Indianapolis. Exactly--so the PawSox will bat in the bottom half of the innings in Game 2. I hope they get a walkoff win, to balance out the walkoff in the Gwinnett home game played at McCoy April 29.

Silver, gold, whatever. Hey, don't knock a team whose leadoff hitter is TED WILLIAMS. (Well, THAT Ted Williams, anyway.)

This isn't really a correction, and perhaps it should have been a separate thread, but I wonder to what extent the site could make use of the accents on the names of many players of Spanish-speaking heritage. I'm struck--and delighted!--that the PawSox saluted Héctor Velázquez in a tweet last night. And at the same time I have to acknowledge that I can't always do so--heck, Smugmug won't even allow the hyphen in Tzu-wei Lin's name--and that I have resigned myself to the general electronic loss of the apostrophe in my own last name. So I'm not sure how it would work in databases, for example. But I'd love to see it in write-ups and on player pages when we have a source for the correct spelling.

The Sean Newcomb fan club was out in full force in Pawtucket today--made it sound like a Gwinnett home game when he was pitching. Solid pitchers' duel with Velázquez.

Anyone have information on seeing minor league games or any of morning practices? I am going down next week ( 19th through the 26th) and haven't been able to find much information online. Thanks in advance, I love the site and support you all yearly. Start with Will Woodward's post: news.soxprospects.com/2016/04/spring-training-rookie-my-first-trip-to.htmlGame schedule: Keep an eye on the big club's schedule, too--it's much less hassle getting in and out if they are not playing or on the road!

Was at Jet Blue Park this morning. Saw Panda in person taking infield at third. He is definitely not as heavy, but he is never going to be thin. Ramirez was taking infield at the same time. Saw Quinton at one of the minor league fields taking BP with a some of the minor leaguers. I assume he was there just to get a lot of AB's. Aybar was also in his group. Did not see my favorite, Jayce Ray (aka Dan Nava II,) today. Hopefully, he is in camp and was doing something else when I was watching. There was an inter-squad scrimmage on one of the fields. People like Rei, Ockimey, Dalbec, Washignton, Monge, Chavis were among those who were playing. I saw Dalbec hit one off the wall in right-centerfield. Rei led off one inning and was joking with the guy hitting behind him about what a great leadoff hitter he (Rei) is - how fast he is, etc.) Given that he is a catcher, I doubt he is ever going to be a leadoff hitter or be fast. I thought it was great that even though this is there job they still are having fun out there. I have to work tomorrow and Friday, but hope to be back out at the complex on Saturday and Sunday. Does anyone know when the minor league games start? Also, for those of you who have been there you know that they have statues and plaques for past Red Sox greats just outside the park with their numbers, etc. Was somewhat surprised that they do not have a new one up for Ortiz. Does anyone know if they are planning to honor him in that way? He sure deserves it. I am officially annoyed that you saw Quentin. Was trying to get a shot of him but never found him (and headed home from trip 1 last night). There's one wave of players yet to report. Not sure if he's part of that wave but I didn't see Ray either, fwiw. I may only have caught the end of the second-to-last wave as I only saw Dalbec briefly yesterday. Minor league games start March 15. The Rochester Red Wings are reliably the first of our group to post their minor league game schedule: www.milb.com/news/print.jsp?ymd=20170203&content_id=215123432&vkey=news_t534&fext=.jsp&sid=t534In case anyone reading is unaware, the Red Sox, Twins, Rays and Orioles play in round robin format, with each day's opponent pair dividing AAA/AA at one park and high-A and A at the other (with occasional low-A games, college opponents, etc.). So if the Red Wings are playing Baltimore, the Sox are playing the Rays, and vice versa--and if the Red Wings are playing Boston you also know which of those teams play where. I assume that once Ortiz has his number retired during this season they will add a giant 34 to the garden for 2018.

I'd love to see JBJ start switch hitting. Since this thread is desperate for something to talk about, I checked out the spring schedule since exhibition games are less than a week away. 2 things: A.) is there a broadcast schedule out yet? B.) I noticed that Thursday's spring opener is lacking its traditional double-header. Does anybody know why there's no BC game scheduled this year? NESN info: nesn.com/2017/02/nesn-announces-2017-red-sox-spring-training-coverage-plans/I was curious about BC too, so I asked Brian MacPherson on twitter, and he replied, "Boston College isn't playing a tournament in Ft Myers this year; the Eagles instead are playing at Fenway Park on April 22."

Looks like Bill Parmeter made it to the GCL game and took a few photos. (I hope that link works--they're the last shots in a HUGE gallery right now and scrolling takes forever.)

I saw a tweet from somebody yesterday (lol, unnamed sources) that was quoting DD. Moncada will remain at 2B for the rest of the year. You can upgrade to a named source with Kevin Thomas.

They had said (on the recent NESN broadcast IIRC) that he had interest from a team overseas (they were more specific but I have forgotten), and that he had an opt-out, and that it would be interesting to see what happened.

Sea Dogs game will be delayed; a sprinkler went off and the fire dept is still checking things out. No one currently allowed in ballpark--including players.

The Fisher Cat's home 4th of July home uni's are fantastic. They were pretty great! Benintendi pinch hit in the ninth and didn't quite get enough of a long fly ball. I forgot about the flying bugs at the Fisher Cats' park. I hope I stop thinking they're still crawling on me soon.

So you think its totally normal to interrogate prospects that way, and it would have been handled no differently for any other team? Unfortunately in a case like this, where they can assume everyone has been coached to lie, where the investigators have all the leverage, and where MLB is probably eager to respond in kind to having noses thumbed at them, I do think it's normal, if not necessarily kind, to expect that interrogation would go that way. I don't think it's GOOD, believe me. But I can't say I'm surprised, and I don't think it would have been any different for any other team. FWIW this was already being reported on in May: www.washingtonpost.com/news/early-lead/wp/2016/05/12/report-mlb-threatened-prospects-like-criminals-while-investigating-red-sox/

Quick thought from the photo side: the Luis Alexander Basabe shot is cropped from mine and uncredited. I have no idea where your credited link is supposed to go. It's this shot: sittingstill.smugmug.com/keyword/luis%20alexander%20basabe/i-K4nKfPL/AI am aware that someone has doubtless lifted it from me and you lifted it from them, but if you could fix the credit (Kelly O'Connor/sittingstill.smugmug.com) that would be great. Likewise on the L. Alejandro shot--you shouldn't credit to Flickr, it's from Bryan Green on Flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/begreen90/15297685618Most of us photographers appreciate credit.

Moncada and Benintendi were named to this year's Futures Game. While I am delighted in all other respects, this is not good news for my plan to sneak off to Binghamton to see the Sea Dogs and Yard Goats July 8-9.
