I wonder what new pitch Whitlock threw? Can't see behind paywall. Can Whitlock stay relatively healthy this year?

Holman of LSU at 4 and 0 with a 0.00 era. 40 strikeouts in 24 innings.
I hope Tommy white falls to us in the draft this year.

Holman looks to be LSU’s new Friday starter. Saw him pitch and his stuff is decent, but the results have been amazing. His stuff has been playing better than jump or hurd’s. Holman’s stuff did not look this good at Alabama last year.

Whitlock Winkowski Slaten Bernardino Campbell Martin Jansen Mata Shrieber Kelly Murphy Whitlock needs to embrace a role this season and prove that 2021 was not an one time ooccurrence. Bullpen depth looks very good at this point. This team just is not likely to compete for post season without every upside possibility coming to be and/or some unexpected additions. I think Shrieber is capable of a strong year in 2024 and might earn more innings in high pressure situations.

Plus giolotta but minus sale. (Minus 3) Plus abreau but minus verdugo (minus 2) Plus Grissom and thankfully minus the cast of 2nd base characters from last year. (Plus 1) Plus o’Neil but minus Duvall (minus 2) Minus turner hurts? ? (Minus 2) All other changes net to zero. Equals 70 win season!

I am intrigued by what appears to be the new and improved pitching development system. If the systems and staff of other teams routinely get holy water from turnips, who knows what the immediate future can hold for the mound at Fenway, starting in March. Bello, Crawford, Fitts, Houck, Mata, Murphy, Pivetta, Whitlock, Winck and others each have genuine and demonstrable upside. Worth watching and waiting? I too want another SP or two for 2024, with our young vets part of a murderous bullpen. But if Breslow is staking his job on producing home grown SP’s and his crew can deliver, that would really be something. Is bres-slow building his improved pitching development system based on what the university of wake forest is doing with the wake forest pitching development system?

Can we get Montgomery at 7 years and 180mm? Would you want them to? That's just too much to me. I would offer him 6 150 and hope he takes it. 6 years on Montgomery to me is where they should draw the line. Are we being penny wise and pound foolish? We got winkleman and maybe mata in the pipeline that might be able to contribute in the rotation in the next two seasons. Can we really afford to skimp now. It seems to me something has to change to avoid another 78-84 season.

Shota Imanaga about to be posted Deadline to accept/decline QO is this week. Perhaps we start to see a few signings after that? Last year the first deals were like Rizzo resigning with Yankees around that time, and then Jose Abreu signing with Houston after Thanksgiving before the floodgates opened I’ve read on Cubs Twitter that he’s been heavily scouted by the cubbies. Breslow certainly knows him well. The stuff is legit: 94.4 mph fastball with high spin rate (2,566 rpm) would be above MLB average for a lefties and he can crank it up to 96-97 too. Any concerns that he is only 5’10” tall.

A lot of intriguing prospects to pick from for this list:
1.) Reimer 2.) Brannon (If he can stay healthy) 3.) paez 4.) d. Hernandez 5.) burns (college pitcher) after we draft him, he will explode through our minor league system.

I mean I'll be honest, I think he can be better than Verdugo offesnively The potential is certainly there as long as he can make enough contact to reach his power. Of course, much as I like to rag on Dugie and think he should be traded this offseason, I have to admit that he's solidly entrenched in that 105-110 OPS+/wRC+ range, which would be a pretty good outcome for even a bat-first prospect (at least one outside the Top 100). Is verdugo a clubhouse cancer?

Is Perales ok? He hasn't thrown since 8/8. Song started Sunday, although it was only 2 innings. Could have just been skipped in the rotation, which isn't uncommon at this time of the year in the low minors. He's already thrown twice as many innings as he did last season. Didn’t he get hit in the thigh with a line drive last time???

Mayer heading for another golden sombrero day. 3k’s through 3 AB. He did end up adding a 2B. Maybe that gets him going. Portland has been cold collectively lately aside from Hickey Jordan and meidroth also struggling

Given our preference to draft high school middle infielders in the first round, would we have interest in another houck? The shortstop from parkview high school in Georgia?

South Carolina beat Florida 13-3. Casas brother hurt in a collision at first base. Might be brushed ribs.
