Buchholz is not locating and very hittable.
Maybe a stint in the bullpen would give him the time he needs to work things out mechanically,

In the middle of Salem's 10 run eighth, runs scored consecutively on BB,BB,HBP,BB,BB. Five free passes with the bases loaded. Drive lost 5-3. Basabes 5/8 (3) 2B, 3B, SB Unusual double play turned by the Drive (game not on TV, 3B,1B,SS). I feel for Chavis. We was really locked in to start this season.

Wow, wright had the knuckler moving tonight. Great to see him getting some run support.
Shaw had a good eye at the plate tonight.
Holt probably needs a day off.

Nice win tonight.
Still worried about price's pitches, but very glad Atlanta did not take advantage,

Taking the best available pitcher is great if he is also the best available player. However, if the best player available on the team's pre-draft list is a position player who your scouts have ranked as the No. 5 player in the draft, and the best pitcher available is No. 17 on their list, why would the Sox not take the best available player regardless of the importance of developing pitching? if we do indeed draft a pitcher, should we take the best college arm available or the best high school arm available?

I thought Portland was one of the best minor league baseball towns in the country?
Seems like a great atmosphere for a player, despite the bone numbing cold.

Or watch video of a fatball with no movement. Literally straight as an arrow. If they start their swing soon enough, all they have to do is square it up and it is tater city. Lol. Straight as an arrow and also 98 miles an hour, painted on the black edge... Can't wait to see the hater brigade eat crow at the end of this season when Kimbrel is his unhittable self. Unbelievable that a couple of uninspired, early-season performances are actually erasing confidence in a Hall of Fame, video game-type numbers closer. There, I said it. I am 100% sure Kimbrell knows he is over throwing and that is what is causing his ball to flatten out, even at 98 mph. Once he gets settled in, he will dominate.

That fact that Kimbrel is going into the 9th with a one run lead against the team that drafted and developed him is concerning me... They can probably read his mind Or watch video of a fatball with no movement. Literally straight as an arrow. Im not a big fan of CVs bat. I think Blake is being wasted in AAA. As I said in the Hanigan vs Vazquez vs Swihart thread, I think that Blake's value is greatly reduced when you move him to left field. His bat at catcher almost makes him elite, and average anywhere else. I don't see the point in moving him to left field, because his bat doesn't play there as well and moncada will soon be knocking on the door. Blake already has a great arm. Framing and calling will come with MLB experience. But right now he is hanging out to dry in Pawtucket. I think CV is a great backup, a guy that catches certain starting pitchers who seem to do better with him catching. I think that Swihsrt should be the starting catcher. #wheresblake Swihart's swing is all messed up at Pawtucket. He is probably going to need a couple weeks to get right.

Chavis is really seeing the ball well and he has also managed to cut his strikeout rate. Swing looks shorter and more controlled. Less swinging for the fences and more swinging to how he is pitched.
But his promotion takes at bats away from Devers, who looks miserable at the plate this season.

Do we really need to burn our minor league depth by overpaying for a top of the rotation starter?
Or would we better served by trading complimentary pieces for dependable relievers.

The Sox don't have a hitting problem. At .273 they have the third highest team BA in both leagues. They could use more HRs with only 13 so far. They are scoring nearly five runs a game. Unfortunately, they also are giving up five runs a game. There is no replacement for JBJ unless they trade for one. If they make any trades almost certainly pitching is what they will go after. With a team ERA of 4.83 they are 26th. That has to improve considerably if they are to go to the post season. I agree. Pitching or lack thereof is killing us. Price and Buchholz has been disappointments thus far. Porcello and wright a surprise. The bullpen very disappointing, but they have been over used this far this season.

Did Buchholz just run out of gas?
His stuff just went flat, very ugly!

HR/Contact and BABIP: .132, .303 Washington .128, .353, Ockimey .068, .386, Chavis Chavis really looks good swinging the bat this year. He has cut down on the strike outs. Seems to have a better plan on breaking balls this year.

Nice start to the road trip.
Wright finally gets some runs to work with.
Betts had an amazing game.
Love shaw's swing.
Hope bogey is ok.

Salem lost 7-2 Ben Moore added a solo shot (1). Drive up 9-8 8th. Ockimey 3/4. Glorius with 3 glorious innings (sorry) . . 4th inning not so glorious. They should have brought in Poyner. Poyner throwing really well to start he season.

I may be wrong, but this team's play is blah.
At least last year after Farrell left, the team was exciting to watch, win or lose.
Ps: price's ball has lacked life since spring training. Maybe something is wrong but he is not snapping it off with the same gusto as we have seen previously.

Seriously....JF --- how many times can you continue to run Taz out there. Great win, but man, at the rate we are using Tawaza, he is going to have dead arm by June. Hoping bogey is ok.

Wort gave up 3 in the 9th and Portland lost 7-5. Sox should take a look at Salem's Drehoff. I'm rooting for Drehoff to Portland, Poyner to Salem. Dubon tossed for arguing an out call at home (I thought he was safe). I saw poyner throw the other day and was very impressed. I know it is an extremely tiny sample size, but the ball came out his hand really well and had late life.

Really hoping the kid we got from Seattle can be back by mid May or so,

Seems like every year there is a poor pitcher that suffers from lack of run support. Looks like it is wright's turn this year.
You just have to tip your hat to Sanchez, he threw a good game today.

Fenway nation has a blurb about the sox trading for gray. We can add that to the seemingly endless list of poor major roster decisions made since 2011 (if it happens). Gray is the next Shelby Miller sized trade loss. Could not agree more. I do think dombrowski is looking hard for a #2.

I am absolutely sure benintendi goes to Portland when the weather gets a bit warmer.
His swing, approach and game plan in the batters box is too advanced for high a ball.

Price had it going today, late life and movement. Great fun to watch!
Shaw continues to impress me.
I never want to see a guy get hurt, but I am glad the sox went with shaw over sandavol.
