Good outing tonight. AA in a few weeks? If he continues to throw well, command the strike zone and tighten up the secondary pitches I would think an August 1 call up to Portland would be best for him.

Three things to put is over the top.
1 - a #2 starting pitcher.
2 - two reliable relievers. One lefty and one righty.
3 - Braun for left field.

Speier tweeted that Ortiz is on pace for 114 XBH, which would be 3rd all-time behind Ruth's 119 in 1921 and Gehrig's 117 in 1927. The man is 40 years old! The man has not lost hardly any bat speed, and when combined with his hand eye coordination is amazing,

You are probably right. But wait one more year. Young Trey is growing and getting stronger as we speak. What's that? Trey has added 2 mph to his 4 seamer. Lets give the kid 2016 and then we reconvene. He is starting to learn to repeat his delivery and commending the strike zone more this spring. However he is nowhere near a finished product. There will be tremendous ups and downs going forward, but his stuff is good enough for the major leagues if he can pull it all together.

I think Neo will beg to differ that results don't matter. It matters to him. He stated numerous times that he'd like to be in the Bigs by the end of next year so I'm sure he's a little disappointed that he hasn't "dominated" low-A. It's still May so he could go on a tear but I think the Sox brass didn't think his goals were very realistic and may have told him so. Hard to be in the majors in less than two years with command issues and two pitches decent pitches. However this is a great time for him to get these things ironed out.

Two pitch pitchers tend to get beat up by our al east competitors.
Would drew strailly be a better option?

Scouting department will stay with what they know. If a SP is coveted J Sheffield Vandy. If they go a bat, RBoldt Nebraska whose power numbers continue to climb.. From what I've read both players were heavily scouted despite both going onto college a few years back... I think if the sox take a college pitcher with their first pick, it will be Dakota from miss state.

From the stretch, he is not finishing his pitches and opposing hitters are jumping on it every time. I can't imagine Carl isn't totally frustrated with him.

I doubt Dakota gets past San Diego, but I thInk he would be a great addition at #12.

Isn't Teheran a fly ball pitcher?
How would that work in the al east?

I have not seen a prospect that is as poised in the batter's box as Benny in quite a long time.
He has everything he needs to be successful at double a. I thought for sure he would have been moved up a couple weeks earlier, but glad the sox waited for the weather to warm up a bit.

I remain convinced that ball has the stuff to be a starter at the major league level,
He just needs innings to master the command and sharper the secondary pitches.

Castillo's swing is finally starting to look better.
He has fixed a lot of mechanical issues and just needs to recognize pitches better and lay off the pitches outside the strike zone.

JBJ's defense is clearly a notch below last year, very strange. Porcello is having periodic command issues here, he's having an off day. Eck has it right. Porcello was very good early in the year. But these last two starts, he has not been executing nearly as well,

I think Whitley is a guy that could one day become an all star pitcher.
He has to get all the peices moving in the same direction, but man, he has some serious potential.

Clarification: Koji wasn't breaking down ,he was hit by a line drive at the wrist! You could be 21 years old or 40, it will put you on the DL. I prefered signing O'day FWIW and keeping the trade chips for a better trade but hey, it's over now and no Quantum leap around. Getting hit on the wrist is a killer. Even if there are no broken bones it hurts really bad! And the hurts lingers for a really long time. I know the pros have some stuff to make the pain go away for a while, but they did not have that at my high school,

I think with porcello and price we have two starters we can trust.
Wright is probably a third.
Then we have Buchholz who is not executing the sinking fastball, but the sox are keeping him in the rotation, so he is 4 by default. However a dl candidate should anyone listed below step up.
Kelly and Rodriguez if healthy, are unknowns. Neither is really throwing well thus far in rehab, but Kelly might be putting it together. More starts are needed by both before we know what we have with them.
Owens, Johnson, Elias and Sullivan are not ready.
So in my mind, we will need a fifth starter in about two weeks or so.
I think trading from our stash of secondary prospects, makes the most sense.
Finding the guy to trade for that can help us, but only cost secondary prospects is the hard part.

Seems our biggest need is a fifth starter.
Nelson is a sinkerball pitcher, might work for us. Dombrowski should be able to pick him up using secondary trade chips.

AB getting Promoted today . No I won't tell you my source Any idea on who takes AB's spot on the Salem roster? My vote is matheny. He has looked too advanced for Greenville over the past four weeks.

Uehara mostly sits at 85-87 now....in a continuing age-related velocity drop. I love Koji, so cool, such command, and so charismatic....a very passionate nice guy too. But his days are numbered. He survives on great command and a great split which allows his FB to play way up. If he could consistently throw even 89-90...whoooeeee! But he cannot. Regardless, he is an anomaly. IMO he will be 'pasteurized' after this season. Who will fill that void? MLB is going to hard bullpen throwers...the latest clear trend. Amazingly, there are a plethora of those guys out there...major and minor. That is where we will go too with our new, forward thinking front office. We have one such guy now. We will have another 2 or so next year. Bank it. Velocity helps, sure but it's less important than command and movement. A reliever who throws 92 with command and movement can be extremely successful. A reliever who throws 98 straight with no command will get lit up. This is so true. Even at 105 mph, a straight pitch will get hammered by major leaguers. Command and movement are key components. Kelly has velocity and movement but little command. Owens has incredible movement but no velocity or command,

What worries me a little is that it seems everyone in Salem is hitting extremely well. 6 guys in today's starting lineup hitting over .312. They are clearly loaded with talent but it's possible their numbers could also be skewed by facing weak pitching. I can't imagine being a A ball pitcher facing that lineup though. The guys at the top of the Salem lineup are getting on base, stealing bases, creating havoc and the rest of the line up is seeing a lot of juicy fastballs. It's become a feeding frenzy.

Stuck between moncada and Benny, he is seeing a lot of juicy fastballs. He has proved to me he can hit fastballs.
Still need to see how he does with movement.

If Benny is going up to Portland soon, maybe matheny should be promoted to Salem. He is too advanced for Greenville.
