He did have his struggles.
Again no excuses.
Can you imagine what it must be like to go from MLB and 'choosing" between starting or potentially closing for a team with world series ambitions and then ending up in the minors a couple short months later?
Think about it. You know these guys do the math (or at least I would)). I'm in year x arb for a couple more my comps projected out will lead to x millions in a couple years...
The point is not about making excuses.
Everyone has a different way to success.
We must all agree that so far not so good on the handling of Bard.

There is the answer.
Renaudo pulled. What a shame.
Bard keeps it clean.
Which leads me to My Daniel Bard theory.
This was his first clean inning. Also his most important (read intense) one.
Keeping the situation that shall not be named alive must have been important on the bench.
I think Bard needs this. He will have a difficult time finding the level of intensity in the minors and has had one since his demotion.
Reading through the lines of his comments since last year he clearly feels his movement from starting to the minors was unjustified.
Hopefully he will continue and build off tonight.
Renaudo has started so well it does change the face of the system with Webster.

A clean fifth for Renaudo...73 pitches. I wonder how long he will go....

Renaudo with a hbp (followed by a dp) and a walk through four ....

Manaea lights out through 6 then perhaps tired in seventh, giving up two walks and two singles.
Seemed dominant until tiring.

I don't see much bust in Puig and Soler is certainly good with the bat, but I do agree with Chris on looking back.
That said, with the draft being somewhat equalized, Fox local money jumping everywhere so almost no one of consequence gets free, looking forward international and prospect development efficiency may be the only organizational differentiator.
Except of course, luck.

The draft should add at least three to the Greenville class, and then there are a couple extended spring guys of interest.
Probably not a huge help for this year, however.

Workman settled down nicely after the first and the offense for the dogs is impressive but the curse of the classic continues for the Xman.
Maybe some balmy Arubian breezes are needed.

It's the shemales NCAA championship tonight. You can't go head to dead with that! Goodness! You are so witty and 'pithy'....(I hope that I am spelling that right.) Just curious, how would the women playing in the championship 'size' you up? When I read this I realized it might be too string for some folks here so I was waiting for this. No offense intended. I'm sure they wouldn't size me up at all. Post me up is more like it.

I thought my humor came across. I intended no offense. I'm not sure about the debounce triplicate thing above. I'll watch for it in the future.

It does seem that Manaea may be there at 7 if Mocks mean anything but to play along with your premise, right now I'm a Meadows upside guy.
But all in all, here's hoping we don't have a top ten pic in a couple more decades!.

I think that the resurgence of Anthony Ranaudo may have a lot to do with the feeling of top flight depth. Add Ranaudo to the two former Dodgers prospects and Matt Barnes and right there you have a potential 2016 rotation with a hell of a lot of upside. The second tier of guys who are second tier only because they are further from the show (Light, Buttrey and of course Owens) and you have the looks of a tremendously diverse minor league system. Great...I'll add the four starters above, include Owens as a fast tracked superstar, load the pen with the starters we didn't have, add to my D and speed line up and get hammered, Hammerhead, with lectures on 'how this never happens'.

I personally never had a problem but it is nothing to be ashamed of.
I believe there are tablets (some blue) for this now.
Good luck Dick, with your pole!

Maybe its just me, but it seems that this year there is much stronger starting pitcher depth.
When I'm looking at the gameday thread, I'll make a mental note to check out results later for 'pitchers of interest'.
This year, many more games are jumping out at me.
Each starter today for example I could see fulfilling a role in the show.

I know you can't draft for need. But, a left-handed hitting corner OF is at the top of my list. I don't disagree with you that it would be nice to take a premier LHH OF, but with the #7 pick and so many premier arms are the front end it would be silly to draft otherwise. Even if you're overdrafting by 3-5 spots on Stanek or Manea or Kohl. That's one of the frustrating things with the MLB draft vs NFL. If you are factoring the 'pool' or where a player is expected to be taken into your logic, then with no in draft trades you must leap forward to your next pick. If the sox think a guy is top 40, then they have to assume they only have one shot at him. A second thought is in terms of draft strategy. Last year they took some guys ahead of their projection due to pre arranged contracts in order to save money to draft and sign 'over slot'. 1. Was this effective? 2. Do we see this being repeated this year? Would that happen @7 or perhaps only after the first round?

Drake Britton (W, 1-1) 6.0 4 1 1 0 4 0 4.00
Line of the night.
So the point Iis that Lavarnway is done? Really?
So who is our go forward catcher?
Salty is clearly not. Huge holes in his swing, seems to actually lose interest during games and even within at bats and frames pitches about as well as a pitch back net.
Could it be Vasquez? And if so wouldn't his backup accentuate his weakness?

I recently listened to a semi famous baseball authority wax on about the future of MLB in the testing era and how Speed and D would become the dominant skill set. Looking to maximize these two factors, I came up with the following lineup projection for the Sox in 2015. What says you? 1. RF - JBJ. 2. 3B - Cecchini 3. CF - Ells 4. 1B - Xan 5. DH - Lavarnway 6. LF - Brentz 7. C - Swihart 8. 2B - Marrero 9. SS - Inglesias There were a couple points to my post. There is no way this lineup ever occurs, understood. But the premise as stated was is the movement reducing power and increasing the importance of speed and d real? If so, what are the best options position by position? Perhaps this is of no import or interest. I find the premise fascinating

After the spring performance, he is rocketing up my mental rankings.
Wouldn't he and lavarnway be a perfect tandem?

Here is an interesting link and mock. In this scenario, my guy is available to the sox, noted below with Sickles comments. www.minorleagueball.com/2013/3/23/4139314/2013-mlb-mock-draft-version-one12) Seattle Mariners (Sickels): I can't let the big lefty slide any further than this. Sure, he's somewhat raw for a college guy and needs time to work his issues out, but the upside as a potential number one starter is too much to ignore at this stage of the draft. Sean Manaea, LHP, Indiana State University
