7 innings and a chance to win the game sounds like a very good #3 starter or better to me. Better. Think about it: averaging 7 IP is saying that for every game you go just 5 ip, you throw a 9-inning CG. And this in a time where the league-leaders in CG right now are Wainwright and Zimmermann with 3. This is a great and important point. To average 7 you have to have the capability of going deep and being efficient. Very few are. Having said that, now that pitch counts( and for the love of God not innings!) are managed properly, perhaps the go forward measurement of success and the whole number three or five guy thing needs adjustment. Say a guy never has big innings, always gets to five and more than half the time goes into the seventh. Whatever that is, and my eyes Workman, Renaudo, and Webster all are capable of starting at this level in 2014, to me is success.

If Ranaudo has an innings limit, when do we move him to the pen and promote him to Pawtucket? Have a hunch he's pitching big innings for the Bosox late in the year. Maybe not closer. But, like Paps in 05. Does Ranaudo have an innings limit? I could see it since he hasn't pitched a full season in a while, but I've never read anywhere that he does. I'm sure we are looking at 150 ish max. No way he is in pen. Ever.

I don't agree at all.
Clearly we have a yearly innings limit.
Now that he is stretched out, any non MLB inning is a waste.
He belongs in the rotation now.
Prospects let you know when they are ready.

88 pitches one hit in eight innings for Britton.
He might have starter potential after all.
This was a Maddox esc night.

Anyone with eyes on Portland tonight?
Britton has dominant results and starter efficiency tonight. Great recovery from the last start. Curious what it looked like on site.
Owens with a little struggle but still results.

Insider content but a fun tool. insider.espn.go.com/mlb/draft/tool/indexThis takes Law's last mock, let's You modify picks, then trickles down ( I imagine using his best available) the rest of the picks. I played with it until the sox got Gray, but it is interesting to see how much you need to do to make some guys drop. I wonder if the pre draft under slot deals will effect the top of this draft and this helps show the impact if you think particular players are already slotted (example Stewart to Minn, Meadows to Miami) I fought the Law, and the law won!

Can we agree Iggy is a major leaguer with a floor as a utility guy with world class late inning d and with Papi use as a pinch runner late as well.
Also, it makes no sense for him to be on the field anywhere but SS.
Unless....
You have a potentially difference making trade deadline pickup on a one year deal that you are showcasing.
The sox would eat Drews deal in a second for the correct deal.

I see three teams including Houston with surprising under slot deals, Appel and a couple teams going high school early,
If this were to happen, and Gray fell to seven, do the sox take him?

Ugly second for Britton...E Xander (after he was hpb the prior inning) three doubles and some other crap leads to five runs.
I'm still curious about him especially the whole late blooming lefty thing but tic tock!

Eh, I guess. I think people forget how high he went too. At 31, he was picked before Ranaudo (although that's not really comparable either - in today's draft, he goes unsigned and goes back to LSU for his senior year) and WELL before Workman at 57. You'd expect him to get a lot more than Workman going 26 picks sooner. So we questioned the pick then, and now with eyes on, we question it even more. Maybe based on college production the comparable is Hernadez?

Which is my point I think... just that given the spot/$$$, maybe expected him a little stronger out of the gate in Greenville. Another good start tonight and Wednesday, we'll be talking about how long till he hits Salem. PS. Only 2.5 more weeks till we can all make the "Smooth as Buttrey" jokes we've been saving up! I'm thinking more along the Beavis and lines or for you old timers Bertha Buttry!

Owens had a tough go.
I wonder if his start was affected by the long wait in the top half of the first.
Rubby, Hernandez, Barnes, and Montas all make up for it, though.

With Flinstone out, who are the possible replacements?
Aceves is obvious, but might the sox go a different direction?
Bard? Chris Martin? Wright?

I know he is young, but Henry Owens has dominated with nothing but quality starts and missed bats.
Some risk in promoting too early but I think there is also risk in not being challenged.
He is exceptional.

I don't like this weekends pitching match ups.
Unless lDoubrount has his very best stuff, and we get Lester's A game, this could be a difficult weekend.
About 69% of games are won by the team starting the better pitcher.
About 60% of the time, this formula works every time!

Barnes goes 6 with only five base runners.
Important start in the warming weather.
If he is back on track now with Renaudo and Workman, that's three strong starting prospects a half season or so away from the show.

I know I'm not alone in thinking a sweep is in play.
Hopefully the bats will really light up for Sunday's start.
If the other starters get deep against arguably the worst lineup in recent memory, then we have more of a biggy back situation With Lackey, not only will we end April with a better than hoped for record, we will have perfectly lined up starters and a rested pen headed for Toronto.
As long as the cart is about a half mile in fromt of the horse, May schedule is light as well, including a home and home with the twinkies, and trips to the white sox and Phillies before another visit from Francona's work in progress Indians.
Anyone care to really tempt fate with an over under on the total sox wins June 1?
Let's try 38.
