Already 2 incredibly terrible calls by the ump today.

here's a nice compilation of Dever's at bats/batting practices (including the futures game) via fangraphs... If I remember correctly those swings at the very end in the blue jerseys are older. If that's correct it looks like he removed the motion before the swing where he kind of swings the bat back angled towards the catcher.

They really are a very deep team. Smart, Thomas, Bradley, Turner, Crowder, Sullinger, Johnson, Jerebko, Lee, Zeller and Olynyk are all players who can play reliable minutes on a solid team. These are all players which I could see getting valuable minutes on a championship team. It's probably going to be very difficult for Young, Jones III, Rozier, Hunter and Mickey to get minutes, and all four could spend significant time in the D Leage.
Even if this team construction doesn't work, I'd be willing to bet that a contending team would gladly trade for any of these players, which gives Danny a lot of flexibility. They also have the depth to deal with any injury at really any position.

Moncada's last 10:
.333/.476/.515 with 9 BB, 7 K and 7 SB
He's doing very well after his slow start. Is Benintendi a little bit dinged up?

Lol Moncada got caught stealing home?
Edit: Should've looked at the log first. Mars got picked off first and he tried to sneak home from 3rd.

Props to Rodriguez tonight. He was struggling to throw strikes early in the game, then then find a way to overcome. The numbers are not great, but he toughed out a potentially ugly start. I agree. If your "bad night" (when not tipping pitches) is 5 IP and 3ER, that's not that bad.

As bad and painful as this season has been, it is really nice when all the young guys have a nice night and it all comes together. I guess all these base-running blunders are just growing experiences?
This organization could be in a much worse place. There's still a nice core to build around.

Bob Nightengale @bnightengale 3m3 minutes ago The #Brewers rejected the #Mets trade because of concerns over Wheeler"s physical and still plan to trade Gomez by Friday. We'll probably never know what they found, but kind of curious what they found. JUst looked and he only began throwing 2 days ago from his TJ surgery this spring and was the failed medicals even anything to do with his elbow at all? Turns out it was Gomez and the Mets were concerned about his hip. lol what a mess

Now Sandy Alderson says the Gomez for Flores and Wheeler deal won't happen. Ouch, Brewers fans won't be happy. That was a good haul for them. Wheeler might have failed the physical or something?

Moncada's now 21/22 on stolen bases this year. Wasn't there an article or something about some Cuban players having trouble stealing despite their speed? Given - it is Greenville but still it's pretty impressive.

The other thing here is that the Rockies could also see if someone wants Reyes. Maybe the Mets will try to scoop him up again - although they should have just tried to get Tulo honestly if they were going to upgrade the SS. Then again, not sure they're running the tightest ship over there.

Come on man, I can see the allure of JBJ, but he has over 500 PAs in the MLB, while Rusney has little over 100 and was, at the time of his signing, a much better prospect than JBJ ever was. He's had a bad and injured 2015, but they shouldn't just flush away the investment. Or maybe they are showing him up for a trade as well. Not sure I agree with this point. JBJ was the #2 prospect in the system for the entirety of 2013: www.soxprospects.com/history.htmPeople mostly thought he would be gold glove defense with a nice OBP. That being said I can see why they brought up Castillo, JBJ will be up soon I'm sure.

It could also just mean that maybe Holt's knee isn't feeling great and he'll be going to the DL?

“@redsoxstats: Jayson Stark on Baseball Tonight says the Red Sox are in and actively trying to get Cole Hamels. Trying to agree on prospect package.” If the Red Sox do make a trade for Hamels, the prospects they deal will provide their new clubs more than twice the WAR the Red Sox get out of Cole Hamels. The Red Sox record when trading prospects for veterans is pretty consistent, and there is nothing in Ben Cherington's history of trades (or free agent acquisitions) to suggest he'll do better now.Trading for Cole Hamels is the road to long term mediocrity. What exactly is this record for Ben? The only trades I can think of specifically is the Iglesias-Peavy deal, which may or may not have lead to a world series. There are other deals involving prospects, but nothing really serious like Ranaudo and the De Aza deal. If anything, Cherington's track record of trading veterans is just as questionable. The successes include the Punto trade and the Miller trade. Likely failures include the Lester and Lackey trades. I'll definitely agree with you on the FA acquisitions and the potential Hamels trade though lol I'm just so sick of hearing about Hamels, especially considering he'll probably perform like Wade Miley is now in the AL East for $95 million. It's worse when you consider they will have to give up pieces for it.

I'm barely watching this game but this review system is absurd. How long was that review? The pitcher's probably cold by now.

I keep trying to write a good post of what I think the team should do moving forward past this season, and I end up just deleting it cause I just don't really know, but I can at the very least point out some problems for next year:
DH - Papi and Hanley are both DHs at this point. 1B - The potential free agent 1B are very poor so they may have to convert someone (god forbid, Hanley??). LF/RF - I really hope Castillo and Bradley can be the players they need here. The only FAs that fit the mold here are basically Heyward and Upton, which could be large $ disappointments honestly.
BP - Find quality guys in the FA market somehow?? Sign some guys up for the stem cell treatments in Germany like Kobe?? SP - Hopefully the young guys improve and they don't overpay an older "proven starter" or give 15 starts to people like Masterson.
Basically the only positions that will have no questions are 2B, SS, CF, C and 3B will be occupied by Panda who will hopefully be better. In my eyes the worst thing a team can do is take risks on players like Grady Sizemore, Allen Craig, Justin Masterson and keep playing them in hopes of improvement or "showcasing" for a potential trade. The more they play, the more negative value is accumulated and the smaller the trade value gets.

Do we even have any pieces (other than the young guys) who could fetch a good return at the trade deadline if we don't reel off some wins soon? Buccholz is hurt, Koji could get something, but he is 40 and on a 1 year deal. Maybe Tazawa? Napoli's value is low as can be, Victorino is meh. I just don't really see any sellable parts of value. That's basically it. I guess they might be able to get a bullpen arm prospect or low ball lottery ticket for De Aza.

If Porcello makes it through this inning unscathed Hanigan deserves a raise.

Memo to Farrell: please get Pedroia out of the two hole! Pedey is a career 2 hole hitter. Where do you want him to hit? And he's hitting .303/.363/.446 this year which is basically the best line on the team. 2 hole is perfect.
