I think the fact that he's impacting the baseball again is more important than the lack of walks. There's a happy medium that he hasn't quite reached, but with his defense I think it's more important to see he can still get to some pop. We'll see where his approach settles in.

I know two HRs were taken back, but I like how Bello is pounding the zone today.

Expecting a ton of K's in that last game of the series. Raffy will get going by finding that big green wall throughout this homestand. This was mostly right! Raffy definitely looks better.

Paxton is the ideal guy (health permitting) that this .500 squad should be flipping for a solid future asset. At the deadline, again health permitting, he would likely bring back a prospect better than the Wilyer Abreu & Valdez return we got for Vazquez.

So when Duvall went down, how many of us expected him to still have produced more fWAR than Devers? While the power has mostly been there the all around offensive impact has not been to his standard. If he gets locked in all around that would be significant.
Couple little stat line battles I'm watching: -Casas' quest to get above the mendoza line (currently hitting .180) -Devers' battle to get above .300 OBP (.296 currently)

Casas has a higher OBP and Devers now. Not sure what to make of that, but he definitely is showing he belongs and is impacting the baseball recently.
Devers meanwhile, I have not been impressed with a lot of his ABs. A little unlucky but I can't help but think his approach has regressed a bit.

I have sort of felt similar about his swing. It doesn't look like the smoothest or most consistent bat path. We'll see if he can make the adjustments to hit his ceiling.

Would think if he's healthy and continuing to shove, his promotion to AAA may coincide with Murphy and/or Mata transitioning to the bullpen barring a turnaround by those guys.

Roman Anthony's first HR of the year happens tonight

Having watched Wikelman a couple times this year, it's obvious he has a ton of work to do.
Mata should continue starting/pitching extended outings until he's on the verge of coming to the bigs. I don't get the rush to make in a AAA reliever right now. It's still April.

Hope Sale can keep the momentum going tonight. Kluber I'm less optimistic about...

Dalbec is 28, has over 900 PA's at big league level and has been exactly league average as a hitter (100 WRC+). He was well below average in 350 PA's last year. I think it's a pipe dream that he could be a regular and hit 30 HR at this point. His defensive versatility is a mirage considering he's average to below at all the places he would play. Solid AAAA taxi squad guy but not the type of guy a good team relies on.

Another delay. That's gotta be it for Bello you'd think. Tough conditions for your first day out. Onto they next Brayan.

Nothing to do with his 1 AB so far today but... I like Casas' at bats for the most part, he just now has to prove he can even hit .200 at the big league level. Almost 150 ABs now and at .174 between '22 & '23. Strikeouts are up and walks down versus last year. Would love to see him have a couple weeks where he hits at a good clip and get some confidence.

the Sox offense in so soft. Pop-ups, weak grounders, and strikeouts. No threat at all.

The worst I have ever seen Mayer tonight. Not the end of the world, but really would be a lot cooler if Mayer, Casas, Bello, Romero, etc. weren't hurt/struggling to start the year. Some big green shoots of optimism feels much needed. Hope they get right soon.

Good start for Anthony today. 2 for 2 in the first two innings.

Super small sample of 10 games, but the only walk Devers has drawn was essentially an IBB. He is swinging at more pitches outside the zone so far (and inside the zone to be fair). He's always been an aggressive hitter but it's been in overdrive a bit to start the year.
There's another tier of hitter he could reach with a bit more selectivity. Hope we start to see that happen now that he seems healthy and paidddd.

Re: the defense--I've actually though Devers has looked pretty good to start. Not sure what happened on that 1st inning pop-up but seems like he's playing the grounders very well and looks smooth.

MLB Pitcher: Whitlock - those few starts in the middle of last year were pretty electric. Can he keep it up/stay healthy? MLB Position Player: Duvall - Can he be a middle of the order bat? Is he still competent in CF? Big early thing to watch
MiLB Pitcher: Wikelman Gonzalez - Is there a big step forward for him? Would love to have more minors SP depth MiLB Position Player: Roman Anthony - OF is barren behind Rafaela. SSS was pretty incredible and want to see that continue
Optional Wildcard: Paulino - is there any physical development? Seems the pop and versatility are there to be a major leaguer.

I've long actually liked Keith Law's work, but the last couple of years (potentially aligned with Covid) I think the quality of work/insight has dropped off. It can't be an easy job to be somewhat knowledgeable on 30 systems with 100's of prospects each. Let alone doing it for 15+ years.
Maybe he's not going to as many games, talking to fewer people, or putting less time and energy into these team specific lists. His top 100 list was reasonable and had a lot of good nuggets on players. Glean what you can from these lists and treat them as the conversation fodder that they are.
That said... Perales should be in a top 20 somewhere.
