Grissom was horrendous in Atlanta last year but has some promise to be the future at 2B/OF. Seems like a utility type. Just think everybody was over Sale in Boston. In 75 at bats, Grossom was .280/.313/.660. That is not "horrendous."

Here's a narrative that isn't completely fabricated. As Asst. GM of the Cubs, Breslow brings an entire organization's player evaluations with him. Sortof payback for the opposite Theo situation many moons ago. Unless Beslow has a photographic memory and personally reviewed all evaluations of players in the Cubs' organization and the evaluations of players in other organizations, he would not be able to "bring" those evalauations with him. The Cubs and every other major league team (and every significant business of any kind) require employees with access to confidential information to sign appropriate confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements and would vigorously enforce them if there was a breach.

Regardless of how this site ranked the prospects, There was at least one player on each of those 3 rosters who I was excited about watching. Rusney Castillo, Tzu-Wei Lin, Christian Vasquez, Ryan Pressley, Devan Marrero, and a couple of others were on my radar. That was not 20-20 hindsight, either.

I have lived in Phoenix since before there was an Arizona Fall League. I have never felt so indifferent about the prospect of attending an AFL game played by the team with Red Sox prospects on its roster.
In every other AFL season, I have seen at least 2 games in which Boston minor leagurers were playing. There was always at least one facinating Boston prospect to watch. This year, the Red Sox minor leaguers are so unremarkable that I may go to a game only bedcause my 9-year-old grandson loves baseball and is certain that every pitch is going to result in a ball being hit directly into his glove.

Great day for a bullpen game. Pitchers take the mound in reverse order of their ERA's.

Mike, consider asking Alex Speier to request perission from the Globe for you to post the entire article here. It seems likely that the Globe would grant permission.

Too bad that Theo is not a candidate. If he were re-hired, I would hope that he would arrive at the press converence in the same gorilla suit that he wore when he left Fenway Park.

This artilce about the history of changes in the strike zone refreshed my memory about why "Strike at the letters!" was no longer said by announcers on radio and television broadcasts of major league games after I entered the 3rd grade. www.mlb.com/glossary/rules/strike-zoneThe changes in the rules after 1967 have been great for batters, but I hope that there is an adjustment upward in the strike zone if automated balls and strikes are adopted.

The Red Sox held a pre-draft workout at the University of San Diego’s Fowler Park over the weekend and junior college prospect Stanley Tucker was among those in attendance, per his Twitter account.
Big thanks to the Red Sox organization for inviting me to their workout. Amazing coaching and scouting staff. Enjoyed this experience!! pic.twitter.com/sFodH3HLLA
— Stanley J. Tucker (@tuck_stanley) June 11, 2022 Tucker, 20, is currently committed to transfer and play Division I college baseball at Texas A&M University. This past season with New Mexico Junior College, the right-handed hitting infielder batted .407/.487/.785 with 20 doubles, five triples, 17 home runs, 90 RBIs, 82 runs scored, 37 stolen bases, 34 walks, and 36 strikeouts over 58 games (262 plate appearances) en route to being named a 2022 NJCAA First Team All-American.
A native of Richmond, Texas, Tucker is not regarded by industry publications such as Baseball America or MLB Pipeline as one of the top prospects in this year’s draft class. That being said, Baseball America noted back in December that at 5-foot-9 and 155 pounds, Tucker “is a little undersized but has plus speed and makes consistent hard contact.”
Defensively, Tucker is listed an an infielder who has plenty of experience up the middle, but he played some center field this year as well. He also pitched in high school, so his arm strength could be considered a plus tool depending on what evaluators have seen.
In last year’s 20-round amateur draft, the Red Sox selected two junior college products in Reedley College infielder B.J. Vela and Chipola College right-hander Luis Guerrero, who were taken in the the 16th and 17th round, respectively. Boston also signed Western Oklahoma State College righty Jhonny Felix as an undrafted free agent.
The Red Sox do have a connection to Stanley’s alma mater in Nick Pivetta, who is currently the only active major-leaguer who played for the Thunderbirds. The 29-year-old hurler was originally selected by the Nationals in the fourth round of the 2013 draft out of New Mexico Junior College.

The Red Sox draft room was ecstatic after Teel's selection. Is there a link to any video of them? I was watching the MLB Network and ESPN at the same time. One of those networks showed the Red Sox draft room with everyone laughing and hugging. Not sure which one.

Sale had 111 pitches the last time out in addition to being sick on Friday.
I am looking forwward to seeing Bello pitch in person Sunday. I was frustrated when Kluber had been scheduled to pitch before his demotion to the bullpen.

It would be interesting to see the difference in exit velocity numbers for all players for pitches inside and outside of the strike zone. Having access to median (in addition to average) exit velocity numbers brokern down by pitches inside and outside the strike zone would be very helpful, also.
Is that data available?

Eric Van wrote: "I may have been seriously following Red Sox prospects longer than anyone else on the board. I first became smitten with the topic by reading the prospect pages in the Red Sox Yearbook starting in 1962"
Eric, you are a little behind me on following Red Sox prospects, but immeasurably ahead of me in your statistical sophistication. I started reading the minor league averages (top 10 in hitting and pitching with a short list of about 5 leaders in major categories, as I recall) in The Sporting News in the early 1950's. I was very frustrated by the lack of information. I had to be satisfied with the annual publications of major league and minor league statitstics (I do not remember when I began buying those Almanacs). I have every printed issue of Baseball America (except 2 in 1989 that were lost). I began watching Red Sox teams in the Carolina League when Carl Yastrzemski played in Raleigh (Class B) in 1959.

Thank you! I have been so busy at my office that I had not carefully reviewed SoxProspects to identify all reports on the staff's hard work.

May I suggest another name to be added to the list of possible opening day shortstops in 2023? Ceddanne Rafaela. Based on comments by Red Sox player development people about his defense last year, I expect him to get a serious look in spring training. If he can hit .240 and play elite defense, it does not seem outside the range of possiblity that he could be the 2023 shortstop. Would this be an ideal solution? No. Could it work? I think it could.

Watched the 9-7 Scottsdale victory in 6 and a half innings. Six teams played a triple-header at Phoenix Municipal Stadium (where Arizona State University plays its home games now).
Perry pitched one inning. Gave up one walk and struck out 2. His fastball hit 94. He was aggressive. Pitched with poise and confidence. Good movement on his pitches.
Scott hit another home run today. Very solidly struck. There are no cheap home runs in that stadium, but he did have a 12 mph wind blowing out. Six home runs hit today in the shortened game. Scott batted before Kavadas. Scott ended 3 innings with 2 strikeouts and a weak fly ball. Scott saw quite a few pitches but there were many called strikes.
Kavadas smoked a double to right field and hit a fly ball single to left. He also reached base on a walk. He showed good reactions and agility catching a very hard hit line drive while playing first base. I do not think Niko is limited to being a DH. I would be interested what people think about his defense who have seen him play more than one game. His baserunnng was a pleasant surprise. He has decent speed for a big guy (not a base clogger), and he really hustles.
Several Twins propsects were very impressive, especially Eduardo Julian who was 3-for-4 with two homers and five RBIs.
