From the report, there seems to be multiple teams looking to trade for Leon. I am a little surprised that this late in spring training that multiple teams are looking to trade for Leon.

While Happ had a better year than Eovaldi, it is highly debatable if Happ at 36 is going to be the better pitcher for the next 3 years.

Chris Sale is reportedly open to an extension. Would you be willing to offer 3 years/$90 million?

While there is plenty of time (and control for the White Sox) for both Kopech and Moncada to develop, there is still considerable doubt if they will ever reach their potential. Strange fact about Yoan Moncada and Jose Iglesias. While Jose Iglesias is viewed as a nonessential player, his bWAR is 2.2 this year vs. Moncada's which is 1.2.

This is an excellent forum. However, there are times that some posters dominate the threads to the point I feel that I am eavesdropping on private conversations.

There is a general assumption that the Red Sox will hold the remaining money under the “hard” cap in case they need/want to make a deadline deal. However, should the team look into using a portion now? If so, who would make sense? The Red Sox can free additional money by releasing León and/or Holt?

What does Swihart have to do to pass León. I think Swihart, Moreland, Holt, and Marrero would be the best possible configuration of the bench.

While I think it is a very good signing and much less than I expected, I would like to see JDM make some sign that he wants to be in Boston and not just waiting 2 years to opt out.

I would like to see Rivera, Mussina, and Martinez get selected next year. The extremely high levels of amphetamines in Halladay at the time of his death makes me wonder if he was taking during his career.

Teams like the Nationals that have let Boras look good when he is in a tough spot gets his help in other negotiations.
As I posted before - $180 million/6 years paid $15 million per year for 12 years.
From time value of money that is equivalent to $150 million on a conventional 6 year contract.

Hopefully, the Kendrick deal would be a comp for Nunez to resign with the Red Sox.

Based on prior comments, Harper is more comfortable when others are leaders on the team. As long as he is comfortable with who he feels are the team leaders, Harper should perform in Boston.

If you look at Houston last year and the Cubs the year before, one commonality is that the players seemed to want to play for the team so they were willing to sacrifice for the sake of the team. The core of the current team seems to be similarly minded. JDM does not seem to want to commit to any team if he is willing to drag the negotiations into spring training. I would explore signing another starter who would want to pitch in Boston and either Nunez or Reed which may provide the depth to pull a trade for another hitter at the trade deadline.

I am not sure if salaries are being suppressed for all players. If you look at the mlbtraderumors predictions for the top 50 free agents in November, the 15 or so free agents that have signed were signed for what mlbtraderumors predicted or more. The discrepancy seems to be a separation of what the agents are asking for the top free agents and what teams are offering. The analytics seem to have made teams wary of making big mistakes.

Why do fans seem more comfortable trading Eduardo Rodriguez or 2 years of Bogaerts over Groome?

What is the more valuable trade chip - 4 years of Eduardo Rodriguez or Jason Groome?

The reason that the Mariners should consider the trade is that they need another quality starter to compete for the playoffs and do not have the farm system to make the addition and do not seem to be appealing to the top starters in free agency.

The Yankees have built an admirable farm system. However, many of the prospects that are filling Baseball America's top 10 prospects and recent graduates are trade acquisitions. The Yankees have done a good job on the international front especially in the Dominican Republic (I have been surprised that the Red Sox have not done more in the DR). Under DD, the Red Sox have continued to draft consistently better than the Yankees.
The Sonny Gray trade seems to have been an overpay and if the rumors are correct the Yankees may be soon overpaying for Cole so the depth in the farm system may soon disappear.

The danger with someone like Lincecum is if he is a mirage in Spring Training and he makes the roster in place of a person without options left. Remember the spring training Grady Sizemore had in 2014.
